Hi I'm Joel

I am a husband, father and an Emergency Room Physician. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a husband to my best friend, and father of five wonderful kids. I am also a Doctor in a busy Emergency Department which keeps me very busy. I truly enjoy what I do for a living because I am able, on a daily basis, to help those that are truly in need. Although I feel fulfilled in my practice in the ER, as rewarding as that can be, my true joy in life and my core is my relationship with God and my family.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was younger I used to struggle with the concept of God. I questioned most everything I was taught and even the very existence of a God. I would study the scriptures but only superficially and sporadically. One day I had a particular challenge given to me by a teacher that I really respected. He challenged me to read the book of John in the New Testament. It was during that reading that I first felt the influence of Christ in my life. Those feelings led me to eventually ask my Heavenly Father in prayer if he was really there, and if he knew me. I recieved an answer that day that I could not deny. That answer has led me through the rest of my life and directed many of my decicions in life. In medicine we are always reading new studies that direct our treatment and diagnosis, or change the current managment of a certain disease. Sometimes when we as doctors think we have the answers, a new study will come out and change all that we thought was true. The same thing happens in life. I don't have all the answers, but I know God lives. I know he loves us and that Christ died for us. My goal is, with my family, to get closer to God and his son Jesus Christ through his Church here on earth. This decision has made all the difference in my life.

How I live my faith

Currently I live my faith through service in community with the youth and assisting the Bishop in our congregation. Through this service, I receive many blessings not only in the church but also with my family. In addition, I find that when i help and serve others, I am more engaged in my family life. I have also noticed that my mind is more clear and focused while at work. I truly believe that by putting God and family first, all other things in life fall into place.
