Hi I'm Rachel

I'm a wife and mother of 3 kids. I'm a hairdresser. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a wife of 12 years, a mom of 3 kids, 10, 7 and 5 and a Hairdresser! I absolutely love being a wife and mother the most and I'm a hairdresser to make money to help my family, serve people's beauty needs and get to know people better. We live in the mountains outside of Seattle and we love the outdoors! We hike and bike and my husband is an avid fly fisherman. My kids love the freezing cold water and love adventure! I am a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. My parents died 15 months apart when I was in high school which sent me into a bit of a tizzy! After 2 years of choosing the wrong friends and numbing my pain and loneliness, My husband and I started dating our Senior Year of High School and I began going to church with his family. I absolutely loved what I was learning and I was baptized on my 21st birthday while he was serving a full-time mission in Toronto Canada. It was hard on my family, especially my wonderful Aunt and Uncle that took my brother and I in and cared for us when we were orphaned, and it was hard on my friends as I had to change my lifestyle a bit to keep the covenants I was making at baptism, but it has been the best choice I could have ever made and I wouldn't choose to be anywhere else.

Why I am a Mormon

I find complete peace and comfort in the teachings of the church and the truths I read about in the scriptures. I know that when the Prophet's both past and present, from Adam in the Garden, to Moses, to Joseph Smith and currently Thomas S. Monson, speak and teach us through the scriptures or current day council they speak the truth directly from our Heavenly Father. Mormon's are so blessed to have a Prophet today! At the head of our church is a man so humble and peaceful that he is able to literally commune with God. That's a tough concept to grasp but after much prayer I gained a knowledge that our Prophet today as well as other past Prophet's all the way back to Joseph Smith really, truly can hear the voice of the Lord. I am also so grateful for how strong my marriage is because of the covenants we made in the Temple 12 years ago. We covenanted to love and take care of each other and our family for all eternity! We promised to never quit and do all that we can each day to be kind and loving to each other and our children so that our family can be strong and be together both here on this earth but also in Heaven for all Eternity. I am so grateful for the peace that being a member of this church brings to my life and I am so grateful for the opportunities it provides me to serve others, and teach my children the gospel truths that will keep them safe. I understand my part in God's plan. Our Heavenly Father loves me so much. From the beginning of time He has placed significant trust in women. I know that I was born into this earth female and that was determined long before my mortal birth. "We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to gendure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things."

How I live my faith

It is very important to my Husband and I to attend church every Sunday. Each week I can promise again with my Heavenly Father to be the best person I can be. That may seem like a huge commitment but the benefits are so rewarding. By attending church each Sunday I am eligible to teach the Children, Youth or Woman during our Sunday School hours. It is such a joy and privilege to serve others in this way. I find it helps me to be less selfish and think about others and pray more for others. I understand the needs of others and I am provided a program and resources to help people. At home, my husband and I constantly reminded to read the scriptures as a family each day, to get on our knees in humbleness and pray as a family each day and every Monday night, hold Family Home Evening in our home where we have some fun together and teach our children a gospel principle. With those 3 key inspired ingredients I know I have the recipe for a successful family and those 3 principles are only taught together in our church. My husband and I desire to raise our children like Helaman's 2,000 stripling warriors in the Book of Mormon, "exceedingly valiant for courage, and also for strength and activity' and who are 'true at all times in whatsoever thing they are entrusted' (Alma 53:20). In order to raise children like this my faith must be strong and I must teach them so well that their faith can lead them to extraordinary accomplishments.' This kind of mothering requires that I have a firm faith in Jesus Christ. That Faith helps us understand God's plan for for each of His children. His Great Plan of Happiness includes that I understand that each of us lived with God and we accomplished, loved and learned long before we came into our homes to be raised by our parents. It includes knowing that love and relationships and family go on forever, after we die, Eternally.

What do Mormons believe is the purpose of life?

Rachel
I believe the answer is also FAMILY! I believe that every person born on this earth throughout time to a Mother needs the connection and love that a family provides. It's a shame that many people don't understand or know about this basic gospel principle! We are all created the same way and born the same way. When a Man and a Woman create a child a spirit has entered that little body and a life is formed. That Spirit has left the presence of our Heavenly Father and all the other Spirits waiting to come down to earth to also receive a body and a family. That new spirit is sooo excited to gain a body and experience all that life has to offer so that it can grow, and learn and make the right choices to be a good person and return back to the presence of the Father when it dies. But guess what, also part of that gospel plan says that the Parents of that Spirit can make choices whether they will teach that Spirit all the good things that this world has to offer. I believe the reason so many people are sad and hurting on this earth is because their earthly parents didn't fulfill their heavenly calling to love, nurture and teach their children about Family and about the Gospel plan. Many people simply don't know about these wonderful things, but others do and ignore the council we have been given that their children are on loan from God and it's their job to help love them and teach them to do all that they can to return to the presence of the Father.
