Hi I'm Karly

I have four sisters and two brothers. I am studying Geology at Brigham Young University-Idaho. I love to read. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in San Diego, California. However, just before my senior year of high school my family moved to Washington. It was one of the loneliest, and best, years of my life. I love reading. My favorite books include the Harry Potter series, The Lord of the Rings, and Jane Eyre. I am also a rock nerd. I love studying geology! The more I see and understand about our beautiful planet, the more certain I am that it was created for a purpose, by a loving Heavenly Father. I love camping and hiking, not that I do either one very well! I collect Happy Meal toys, and have many more than I should. I have a big, loud family. Whenever we get together, even in small groups, we eat, and eat, and eat. I love my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into this church, both of my parents are members. I cannot pinpoint the exact moment I understood that this is the true church, it was more of a combination of small Spiritual moments throughout my life. There is a knowledge that burns inside me somewhere deep, just behind my heart, that this is the Lord's church. I guess the main reason that I have remained, and will always remain, in this church is that I want, more than anything, to live the teachings of Jesus Christ, my Savior and Redeemer. I want to follow his teachings and do what He would have me do. I know that the best way for me to do that is through this church, because it is His church. I have read the Book of Mormon, and prayed to know for myself that it is true. I have also prayed about the leaders of this church, to know if they are truly prophets and apostles of God, and I know that they are. I know these things through the promptings of the Holy Ghost. I have gained a testimony of the Savior, that He lives. I have gained a testimony of the Atonement. I know that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that He atoned for my sins because I have felt the pain and sorrow of sin. I have felt the weight of sadness upon my soul, and I have felt the glorious joy that comes from repentance. I have felt the peace that comes when we allow the Atonement to work in our hearts. I know Heavenly Father loves and understands each of us.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by doing my best to use every opportunity I can to serve others. For the past couple months, I have been helping to organize activities for the women in my ward. Because we are all students living away from home, life can get lonely and overwhelming, so I try to help plan ways to make everyone feel included and loved. Sometimes this means putting together a small dinner and a guest speaker, and other times it just means stopping by all of the apartments in the area to drop off a treat and a hug. Every once in a while, I will also give a lesson in church for the women. It is a wonderful opportunity because often I learn more about the subject, as I study the scriptures and pray to prepare, then do those who I teach.
