Hi I'm John

I grew up in central Missouri and now live in Arizona (USA) with my wife and 4 wonderful kids....and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a content husband and father of 2 excellent sons and 2 beautiful daughters. I work in finance for an iconic musical instrument manufacturer in Scottsdale. I was born in Idaho, grew up in central Missouri, but we've been here in hot Arizona for the last 9 years. I enjoy watching and playing soccer, camping with my boys and swimming with my kids. My boys play soccer, basketball and run cross-country. My daughters are active in music and dance. My wife Kim and I enjoy our weekly date nights as it allows us to build our relationship.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to a wonderful mom and dad who were excellent examples to me of how to live a Christlike life. Although my parents are wonderful examples and have their own firm personal testimonies of the Savior, I decided at a young age that I wanted to know for myself what God's plan for me was and how I should live my life. Through study and faith, I learned about how God would have me to conduct my life. He truly answered my prayers. I know he exists, is aware of me as one of his children, that he loves me and wants me to be happy. I know he has prepared a plan by which I can be happy. By living according to the plan, in spite of trials and difficulties that may arise, I have truly found happiness in my life. At church I learn the basic teachings that help me to live in a way that demonstrates my faith and help me to become a better husband and father. I also learn how to raise my family with clear standards of morality and behavior that will allow them confront the trials in their life with faith in Christ.

How I live my faith

Being a member of this church is more than just a once a week, visit to church on Sunday. It is an opportunity to live the example Christ set for us by serving our fellow man. Although life can get busy, I make my service in the church a priority in my life, which brings wonderful blessings to myself and my family. Although I am not perfect, I seek to improve my life through study, faith and service to others. I have a wonderful opportunity to serve with members of our lay ministry to build up the faith of others and to spend time with the youth in our church. It's a humbling experience to be able help them to grow into wonderful, strong young men and women who will be great examples of the Savior and great strengths to those who associate with them. Mostly I try to be a good example to others around me by working to live the principles that I know to be true and work each day to model myself after the characteristics of Jesus Christ.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

The Word of Wisdom is a law of health given to the modern prophet, Joseph Smith, by our Heavenly Father. It provides guidelines for taking care of our bodies and keeping our minds strong. Since our bodies are such a precious gift from God, He gives us these guidelines to live by to allow us to live healthy and promises great physical and spiritual blessings to us for living in obedience to these principles. In addition to promising us physical and spiritual health, the Word of Wisdom teaches us to avoid any use of tobacco, alcohol, coffee and tea and any illegal drugs. I know that I've been greatly blessed with health and strength by living in harmony with this law. Show more Show less
