Hi I'm Marty

I grew up in Tooele, Utah. I served a mission in Ecuador. I'm married with three children. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I served a mission in Ecuador. I graduated from Brigham Young University. I am married with three children that are all going to college. My wife is a school teacher, and I work in Information Technology. We both enjoy camping and fishing here in Colorado. We enjoy the mountains and traveling. We also like watching sports. Our favorite sport to watch is basketball. We look forward to serving a mission as a couple some day.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined church when I was eight years old. I come from a community with a lot of Mormons, but my family didn't attend together until I was 16. I attended when I was young, but mostly by myself or with my sister. My parents started attending when I was 16, and it was a wonderful experience for us all. We went as a famiy to see the Jordan River Temple dedicated, and we all felt the Spirit very strong. When I was 17, my parents were sealed (married for time and eternity) in the Salt Lake Temple. That was a tremendous experience. I felt the Spirit so strongly there that I will never forget that experience. It was so joyful for us as a family. I served a mission in Ecuador, and I learned to truly love the people there. I had so many experiences that taught me how much Heavenly Father loves his children. I know that Jesus Christ atoned for our sins, and I know that the gospel was restored through Joseph Smith. When I returned from my mission, I was married, and we have three grown children. It has been a wonderful experience to see them grow and learn about the church themselves. Each of them has had to discover the truth of the church on their own. We have found that we are happier and closer to God when we follow his principles. I feel closer to Him when I read the scriptures and pray daily. I have found that He touches my heart each Sunday when I go to church, if I will listen carefully with an open mind. I love the church, and I am so grateful for the blessings it has brought to me and my family.

How I live my faith

I am currently serving as the 1st Counselor to our bishop. He is the leader of the ward, and I know that he is inspired of God by the way he lives his life and conducts himself within the church. I know that the church is led by a prophet, and that God inspires his local leaders. It has been a blessing for me to be able to participate in this capacity. Prior to that, I have served with many opportunities instructing the young men of our ward. I am impressed with the fine youth of the church, and they have such a wonderful spirit that strengthens each other and myself.
