Hi I'm Garron

I am a husband, father and therapist. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Technically, I am a convert to the church. My mother, who joined the church when she was a child and later fell away from the church, wanted my brother and I to have God and religion in our lives. I was 7 and my brother was 12. I remember going to a Presbyterian church for a while which we enjoyed. My mom then was diagnosed with cancer, and while she was in the hospital to have the tumor removed, her sister (who was still active in the church) suggested she ask the missionaries to come and give her a priesthood blessing. She followed her sister's advice and well, everything went well and long story short, we started attending The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. My brother and I started taking the missionary discussions and we were baptized. I was 9 and he was 14. I have since served a full time mission, found a beautiful wife, got married in the temple and now have 3 amazing children. I am a therapist that specializes in addiction, stress reduction, and marriage counseling.

Why I am a Mormon

As I have thought about this question and there a so many reasons why I choose to be a member of this church. The most important reason I am a Mormon is because I know that this is Christ's church, that he leads it today through a living prophet, Thomas S. Monson, just as he did in times past through Moses, Abraham, Noah and all the other prophets. I am a Mormon because I know that Joseph Smith prayed to know which of all the churches were true and he was told that none of them were, although they had some of the truths of the Gospel, there were some teachings they did not. I know that God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ visited Joseph Smith and restored The Church of Jesus Christ once again on the earth. I am a Mormon because I know the Book of Mormon, along with the Bible are the word of God and contain His teachings that will bring us back into his presence. These are the main reasons I am a Mormon. I would also like to share three other reasons I am a Mormon. I have found that in a stressful and troubled world the Gospel of Jesus Christ gives something that nothing else can completely. They are: 1. Freedom: John 8:32-36. Verse 32 says, "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." As an addiction counselor I have seen how things such as drugs, alcohol, gambling and pornography can take away ones freedom and destroy their peace and happiness. But living the gospel of Jesus Christ is truly freedom! 2. Happiness: Mosiah 2:41. "ye should consider on the blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of God." Who doesn't want to be happier? Knowing God and is plan for us brings a happiness that can not be duplicated. 3. Peace: Doctrine and Covenants 59:23. "But learn that he who doeth the works of righteousness shall receive his reward, even peace in this world, and eternal life int he world to come." Having peace in such a stressful time is priceless. I hope this is helpful. I believe it to be true!

How I live my faith

I have the amazing opportunity to be an early morning seminary teacher where I live. Seminary is class for high school students where they can learn the teaching of the gospel as it is taught in the scriptures. You could say it is a Bible Study for Mormons five days a week during the school year. Because there are not a lot of Mormons where I live, we have this class and 6 AM every morning before school. I get to help them how the Gospel of Jesus Christ can help them in their lives. How it can provide them the freedom, happiness and peace that everybody wants but may not know where to find it. I also try to live my faith by my example to those I come in contact with. Most importantly to my children.
