Hi I'm Tom

I grew up in Colorado. I enjoy flyfishing, hiking, camping, skiing and motorcycle riding. I'm a software engineer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a father if six children. Have been married for 27 years. We have have three children in college and two grandchildren. I have three sons and each have earned their Eagle Scout awards and have served missions for the church. I am a software engineer with a masters degree from University of Colorado. I currently coach development teams in the use of Agile/Scrum/Lean software development practices I enjoy all types of outdoor sports: camping, backpacking, hiking, skiing, fly fishing, motor cycle riding. I also enjoy building furniture, doing home construction, wood carving and generally fixing things.

Why I am a Mormon

I became member of the church shortly after graduating from high school. I had met several mormons through my school years. I had become close with a particular family and their examples impressed me which brought me to investigate their beliefs and eventually to baptism. I grew up in another Christian faith and had basic Christian beliefs. The Christian beliefs of the LDS church added more richness and purpose to my beliefs and filled in many gaps. As a result I have much stronger testimony in Christ and in God. I served a two year mission, roughly a year after my baptism into the church, which has been very meaningful in my life. The gospel grows as you grow and so there is always something to learn and there is always an area of your life to work on as we strive for perfection. The gospel has defined who I am and has given me purpose in my life.

How I live my faith

Service is a big part of how I live my faith. We believe what we do unto the least of these our brothers (and sisters) we do it unto Him (the Savior). My service has included many years working with the young men in the church as a Boy Scout leader. I have also served as a Sunday school teacher several times. Our church relies on a lay ministry and I have served in ministerial leadership positions as well. Each month I visit several families who I have a watch-care assignment for. As a family we have weekly family night where we enjoy doing family activities together. The children have a weekly activity night. On a regular basis we have congregational activities that we attend as a family. As a family, our lives revolve around the gospel and the church. It provides a lot of meaning and purpose to our lives. It gives each of us the opportunity to serve one another in different ways and at different levels.
