Hi I'm Sam

I'm a 24 year old, husband, father, student, and mormon.

About Me

Im a 24 year old husband, father, student and mormon. Some of my hobbies are cooking, fixing things and skating. I most of all love to spend time with my wife and daughter who I love very very much! Im a student studying a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy. Im half way through my degree and I cant wait to finish!

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a family that were members of the LDS church. For much of my childhood I learnt gospel teachings at church that laid an understanding of the standards that people should live by to find happiness. As I approached my late teens, and found myself confronted with a lot of the same challenges that often attend people of my age (e.g. Alcohol, Drugs). I found that the standards that my parents and my leaders at Church had taught me gave me strength to resist and avoid decisions that would ultimately lead to sadness. I was lucky as a teen. I always accepted that what I had been taught my whole life was true. But there came a time when I was preparing to serve the Lord as a full-time missionary, that I felt that I needed to know for sure, to just believe wasn't enough. So I read The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ (comparable to the Bible) and I prayed to my Father in Heaven and asked Him to know if what I was reading was true, and if the things this church had taught me was the truth. I felt at that time an incredible feeling that was an answer from God that the Book of Mormon is true and that the LDS church (Mormon Church) is the true kingdom of God on the earth. I also came to a knowledge that my Saviour, Jesus Christ, knows me and loves me and that its through Him and His teachings that I can be happy in this life and be with my family in the life to come. I still have those same feelings now when I pray that re-confirm the truths that i have received. As a missionary, I was able to help many others find the same answers that I was searching for, and had many amazing experiences where God reached out to His sons and daughters in love to bring them to truth. Following the teachings of the church has brought me and my family great happiness and peace and thats why Im a Mormon.

How I live my faith

Now I serve as a volunteer in my congregation. I serve in a welfare capacity to assist people who are struggling with temporal issues and need support. I also look over the spiritual instruction and welfare of many young fathers and husbands in the ward. I find my role in the church challenging but very rewarding. Its great to be able to help people and it makes the effort worth it. I enjoy teaching at church because I learn just as much as the people that Im teaching. My wife and I try to visit some of the members of our congregation that live far away from our chapel and arn't able to attend very often and share a spiritual message with them as well as our friendship.

What is the Book of Mormon?

Sam
The Book of Mormon is a book of ancient scripture, comparable to the bible. It is a record of the principal ancestors of the american indians and those native to that continent. It is a book that provides an additional witness to the Bible that Christ really did live on the earth and that His teachings weren't just reserved for those in jerusalem and the middle east, but were for all people, in all nations, on every continent. It is a record of a family that is commanded by the Lord to leave Jerusalem and travel to a new land. This family were some of the first to settle in this new land (what we know now as the american continent). From this family stemmed two great civilisations. Like us, these people were the children of our Father in Heaven, and he reached out to them by sending prophets to teach them about Jesus Christ (like Moses did for Israel). Their stories were preserved by the hand of righteous men who were commanded by God to write their history to benefit future generations. These records were kept and later abridged by a prophet named Mormon, who hid them to be protected and preserved until the Lord chose to reveil them. The crowning event in the Book of Mormon is a personal visitation from the resurrected Christ before He descended to heaven (3 Nephi 11) where he organised His church and gave the people the power to teach and baptise. It is promised that anyone can know for themselves of the truth of this book through sencere prayer (Moroni 10:3-5). Show more Show less

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

Sam
When the missionaries visit, they will share a brief but powerful message about how God has reached out to His children on the earth once again today as he has done in ancient times. That He has restored the complete fullness of the Gospel, as it existed during His time on earth, after centuries of being lost. These truths are given to benefit us and our families so we can one day return to Him. They will share about how the gospel of Jesus Christ is a gift and in what ways it can help you in your life from day to day, and also what you can do to know of these truths for yourself. Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Sam
Do I really believe that a prophet exists today? Yes! I believe that God is the same today as He was in the time of Moses. He loves us and we are His children and He wants us to know the truths that will bring us happiness. Life can be confusing at times and their is lots of bad things that exist today that didn't exist in the time of Moses. Just like God warned His people of spiritual danger in the time of Moses, He warns us today though His chosen prophet on the earth, Thomas S. Monson. Anyone who hears the prophet speak and sincerely asks God if he is a true prophet can know, independent of anyone else, that he is a true prophet of God by the power of the Spirit. Knowing that their is a true prophet on the earth brings an assurance that if you follow the things he teaches you will be happy in this life and in the life to come. Show more Show less
