Hi I'm Rachel

My family is huge. I'm a working mum. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My husband and I have three fantastic, talented and beautiful children. I work with children as a speech pathologist and do volunteer work through the church helping children learn and develop. As the oldest girl in a VERY big family I guess looking after and teaching children has always been part of my life. The great thing about being part of my family is that we keep getting to welcome new members to it with births and marriages being a regular event! My life is challenging and rewarding in all of three main facets - home, work and church. I am interested in art and craft, particularly drawing and illustrating but don't have as much time for those things as I would like. I love to read, especially children's literature, and use books everyday in my home and at work. I enjoy creative writing and would love to publish some of my work. Being a wife and a mother is always challenging and sometimes frustrating but very rewarding. I have a great husband who is also a wonderful father. We have a lot of fun together but don't always see things the same way which keeps life interesting!

Why I am a Mormon

My parents joined the church just before my eldest brother was born so some people assume that I am a Mormon just because my parents are. I was blessed to have parents who actively encouraged me to search out truth and decide for myself what I believed. As a result I am still a Mormon now because I found the truth for myself. Some of the truths I take great comfort and peace in knowing are the answers to three eternal questions: Q: Who am I? A: I am a daughter of Heavenly Father and he loves me! Q: Why am I here? A: So I can learn and grow and develop and one day become like my Saviour and Father in Heaven. Q: Where am I going? A: I am progressing towards being like my Saviour as much as possible in this life and living with my family, Saviour and Heavenly Parents in the life to come. I started to wonder as a teenager about life and other such things that teenagers think about and so I prayed a lot during this time to know what God wanted me to do and the answer came back very clearly that I needed to do what I already knew was right so that's what I've been trying to do ever since.

How I live my faith

As a working mum I love my children and my job but sometimes find it hard to juggle work and family and life in general. The wonderful thing about the gospel is that it reminds me to keep my priorities straight and put my family first. That doesn't mean I do it perfectly but the gospel helps me to do that more effectively. I enjoy getting to know new people and it always amazes me how we can all be so different and part of the same ultimate family as a Child of God. Not just tolerating but actually embracing differences is a really important way I live my faith. I am passionate about helping young children have the opportunity to develop communication and literacy skills in a positive and supportive environment. Observing a child learn to understand and use new words is so exciting!
