Hi I'm James

I was born and raised in Alberta. Now I'm a university professor in Saskatchewan. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a father and husband. I love to spend time with each of my six children. They each have such unique interests and personalities. While my oldest loves to sit and discuss the books she reads, my youngest is more playful and mischievous. Balancing time between my work and family can be challenging. I try to take advantage of every opportunity to be with my children and show them that I care for them.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because Heavenly Father has answered my prayers. From a very early age I recall instances where I felt a calm assurance that I had a Father in heaven that cared for me and was looking out for me. So later, when I wanted to know for myself whether He had a church, I prayed for that same type of assurance. I know that Heavenly Father heard my prayer and wanted me to follow His gospel. Knowing that Heavenly Father has a plan for me and my family has helped me to overcome challenges that may have otherwise seemed insurmountable. As a father I have found it difficult to watch my children struggle with illness. However, the gospel, including Heavenly Father's plan of happiness, provides peace and comfort even in times of distress and uncertainty. I am extremely grateful for that.

How I live my faith

I have had many opportunities to serve. One of my favorite assignments was to teach the children during our sunday services. My wife and I taught the seven and eight year olds. Each week the focus would be on a different gospel principle, such as prayer or faith. The children would participate in learning activities and discussions. It was a great learning experience for me as I developed a greater understanding of the principles that I wanted to apply in my life. Currently I serve as a ward mission leader. I help members of the church in my area reach out to their friends and neighbors to share what we believe. An important part of my assignment is to coordinate the efforts of full-time missionaries with members of the church that live in my area.
