Hi I'm Kevin

I have six children, many grey hairs to prove it, and have been a Mormon most of my life.

About Me

I grew up in Montana on a small farm. Perhaps it was here, where things needed constant fixing, that I found an affinity for learning how things worked. It was on this small farm where I restored my first 1929 Ford model A truck. Little did I know at the time that this experience would help guide me in pursuing and obtaining a Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. I now work for a large corporation developing next generation portable energy systems. My current favorite hobby is being a father to my six kids.

Why I am a Mormon

Why I'm a Mormon is a question that I hope I can answer in a way that doesn't come off as cliché or otherwise shallow in thought. As I've pondered how to best answer this question I've thought about all the gospel has done for me in my life. Many thoughts flooded my mind as I pondered this question. As wonderful as those thoughts were, I feel only one of them truly represents why I am a Mormon. I tend to question everything. In my line of work you either come with data or don't bother coming. This is how I prefer to make decisions, without emotional commitment. Unfortunately, with God, and choosing a church, it isn't that cut and dry. I loved attending church as a boy and into my adolescence years. However, after graduating from high school I found myself in a position to choose my own path, including whether or not I would serve a mission. I wouldn't go if I didn't know the Church was true. Mormons teach that the ancient church of Jesus Christ was restored in these latter days through the prophet Joseph Smith. It is also taught that Joseph translated an ancient record known as the Book of Mormon. Logic follows that if the Book of Mormon is true then God did indeed work through Joseph Smith to restore his church. For me, the "data" was in the Book of Mormon. I knew that I had to read the book for myself. I read all 531 pages. It's hard to explain in words my thoughts and feelings as I gained a testimony of the truthfulness of this book, which talks about Jesus on almost every page. So, for me, I'm a Mormon because I believe the Book of Mormon is true. It's the "data" I needed coupled with the witness of the Spirit of God that it's true. I hope those of you who read this, who are searching, will put forth the effort to read the Book of Mormon. You can search the internet and research the church for good and bad, but in the end it will have been mostly a waste of time unless you read the Book of Mormon. I promise, you won't regret it.

How I live my faith

One of the most important teaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ is to practice what you preach. This has helped me strive to be a better husband, father, employee, and person. I'm currently involved with the youth of our church. It's been a gratifying experience watching them grow to love the Lord.
