Hi I'm Austin Doutre

I study Engineering. I love to run, laugh, and sing. I'm a husband, volunteer, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently a graduate student studying mechanical engineering with high interest in fluid mechanics and reliability. I am newly married, and my wife and I both supporting our favorite college athletic programs, looking for opportunities to serve in the community, and learning about how to be more conscious of our health and the environment. We also love learning about different cultures and perspectives on life.

Why I am a Mormon

I believe in Christ. I have come to know of and have experienced the redeeming power He holds. I know that he has given us ways to know of Him and His love, along with Our Heavenly Father's love for us through scripture. I have read the Book of Mormon and I know that it truly brings me closer to Christ through the many testimonies within it's pages. I feel the confirmation from the Holy Ghost of God's love for me as I follow the teachings of this church. I have felt great strength as I turn to the Priesthood of God which has been restored to us today. I am a 'Mormon' because I know no other way of living that will secure for me the blessings of an Eternal Family. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ because I love to hear the voice of the Lord through scripture and living prophets.

How I live my faith

I love to volunteer and serve anywhere I can to help others be happy. I have been a youth counselor at both church and school youth camps. I have helped to prepare new students in registering getting involved with the University I attend. I serve in the church as a group leader for our monday night lessons and activities to help build the unity and faith of surrounding young single adults. As such we coordinate who will prepare lesson, the activity, and the treats. I also strive to share my testimony of faith in Christ with my family and others around me.

What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

Austin Doutre
The word "Testimony" defines the experiences one has which confirm the truth of a certain principle or truth. This confirmation comes from the promptings of the Holy Ghost, that is His role, to witness of the Father and the Son. He may confirm truth in your heart and in your mind, and you will feel a calm and peace regarding that thing. When truth is revealed to you in such a way, you cannot turn back on that knowledge. That is one reason why people of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints are known for standing up for what they believe in. We seek to find truth, and when we find it we hold onto it, and it becomes a part of our foundation of life. The Prophet Joseph Smith received a testimony of the reality of God the Father and Jesus Christ. He bore witness of his experience in saying, "For I had seen a vision; I knew it, and I knew that God knew it, and I could not deny it" (Joseph Smith History 1:25). It is my testimony that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ live and love us. I know that their love is manifest through living prophets, through families, through the Plan of Happiness, through Priesthood authority, and through the redeeming power of our Savior Jesus Christ. I know that we can be freed from the bonds of sin through Him. I have come to know the truth of these things through reading and pondering the Book of Mormon and other scripture, engaging in heartfelt prayer to know the truth of it, and then to live according to these truths. What is the role of the husband and the wife in the family?

Austin Doutre
I have been learning a lot on this topic recently as I am engaged and trying to understand this for myself. Because of the inherent loving nature of women, it is their primary responsibility to provide nurture for her children and husband. Love in the home is what keeps the family together. Also the mother is responsible for the teaching that goes on in the home. Men have a natural ability to work hard and provide for the family and protect them from harm. The father is also to be the head of the home, to provide direction for the family. He should serve as a stalwart example of dedicated hard work. Something that I recently discovered for myself was the vital role that must be had between a husband and wife. While it is most natural for the woman to express love to the family, it is the husband that holds the responsibility to help his wife feel loved. This is a role that is not emphasized very well in society today, but is so very important to a healthy family relationship. The primary role of a husband and wife, is to bring children into this world. We are given the wondrous gift of creating children and the most ideal environment for children to come into the world is through a well founded family. A family filled with love, commitment and faith. So this should be the continual goal of a husband and wife, to create a home where learning, love, forgiveness, prayer, faith, and comfort are available to the children to be raised.
