Hi I'm Jake

I grew up in small farming community in Utah. I now live in the suburbs of Denver. I design dams for a living. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I design and build dams for a living. I like my job because every project I work on has its own unique set of challenges. I am married to a wonderful woman! I swept her off her feet, literally, one night while we were country dancing during college and she hasn't been able to get rid of me since. We both grew up and attended University in northern Utah and recently moved to Colorado. We miss living close to our families but are looking forward to the opportunities that await us here. I don't think that I have ever been accused of being shy. I enjoy meeting and getting to know new people. I love to be active! I enjoy riding motorcycles, playing any sport with a ball, and hunting. Just recently I began cycling and have really enjoyed it (once I got over the spandex shorts you have to wear). However, I would have to admit, my favorite pass-time is skiing. I have a strong belief in the power of education. I graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering and a Masters Degree in Geotechnical Engineering. I enjoy learning and hope to continue my education throughout my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a family that is Mormon. However, that is not why I am a Mormon today. I have never been one to follow blindly. I read, pondered, and prayed about the truthfulness of The Book of Mormon for myself. Through the power of the Holy Ghost, I received an answer to my prayer. I know The Book of Mormon contains the writings of ancient prophets that lived on the American Continent and that it was translated by Joseph Smith. I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God and that through him the Church of Jesus Christ was restored to Earth today. I know that our Heavenly Father loves us and that he does not change. I believe that now, more than ever, there is a need for his guidance. I know that there is a Prophet and twelve Apostles on the earth today, who hold the Priesthood of God, and that they receive revelation to help teach and guide us through the unique set of trials we face today. I have felt the blessing that come from obeying their teaching and commandments.

How I live my faith

Each day I try to learn more about Jesus Christ through personal scripture study and prayer. One of my favorite scriptures is John 13:35 "By this shall men know that ye are my disciples, if ye love one to another". I have found that by giving service we can follow our Saviors example of show love to one another. So, I try to look for opportunities every day to serve others; weather it is helping someone in need or even donating time to a local relief agency. The church also gives members many opportunities to serve one another because there are no paid clergymen. Currently, I am and instructor in our ward. As an instructor, I have the opportunity to prepare and share a lesson with a quorum or group of Elders once a month. I also work with the Webelos in the Cub Scout program. Even though I do not have children of my own, I enjoy helping the young boys develop skills they will be able to use throughout their life.
