Hi I'm Thavee "D15"

Being a Mormon (or more accurately, a latter-day saint) has been the best blessing in my life. I know who I am and why I am here.

About Me

I was born in Laos during the end of the Vietnam War. I am the second oldest child of five children. On one dark night in April 1979, my family secretively crossed the rolling Mekong River from Laos into Thailand and escaped the oncoming persecution and oppression of a post-war Laos. After running from the authorities throughout the north country of Thailand for six months, my family was finally able to enter the refugee system. Another six months, we were sponsored and flown to Texas! Very fortunate indeed considering how many had suffered or were unable to get into the refugee system. I attended elementary and secondary schools in Texas. After five years in the AFJROTC program, I had every intention to enlist in the Air Force until my guidance counselor asked me about going to college. Graduated ninth in the class, he suggested I apply to the service academies. What's the worst that could happen? I applied, interviewed and was nominated as the first alternate to the U.S. Naval Academy. Guess what? I received the nomination! Called mom from the airport to say good-bye, and she said "have fun in Indiana". I realize then that I was on my own. After four grueling years, I survived the Naval Academy with affectionate names like "D15" and "the loudest swimmer in the history of the school". Today, I am still serving. I enjoy spending time with my wife and four children doing things like sailing, biking, running, reading and being out and about in the great outdoors.

Why I am a Mormon

I was baptized and joined the church at the age of 25, and just couldn't be happier! I have never known a more fulfilling and living gospel like the one found in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. After searching for so long to find the true church, I have found it here! I read the Book of Mormon, prayed about its truthfulness and have received the Holy Spirit's confirmation that it is true. It is another testament of the Savior and I have found its doctrines just as the early prophets and first Disciples have recorded in the holy Bible. Never has so much been given to a prophet as was given to the Prophet Joseph Smith. I revere the prophets, sustain current leaders and I worship my Heavenly Father through His Son, Jesus. I just wished I had found the truth sooner.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith everyday starting with scripture reading, prayer, attending church regularly and doing my best to fulfill my calling as a Stake Young Men President and home teacher. I strive to see everyone as a son or daughter of our Heavenly Father. My family and I enjoy being together on Sundays, having people over for dinner, doing Family Home Evening, singing hymns, watching faith enhancing movies and videos. Every Wednesday, I take our boys to Scouting and youth activities. I enjoy helping others both in the church and the community.

Are Mormons Christians?

Thavee "D15"
ABSOLUTELY! Mormon is not an accurate description. As the name of the church "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints" implies, we are living disciples of the Savior. We strive to live His teachings, keep His commandments, and hold ourselves accountable to living up to the covenants that we have made with Him through the temples. We love as He loves; we serve as He serves; we worship as He has instructed; we pray as He has modeled for us; we are His followers, and He is our shepherd....and Savior. Show more Show less
