Hi I'm Mary

I grew up in Los Angeles but now call Arizona my home. I am a wife, a mom and a Mormon!

About Me

I grew up in Los Angeles, but now live in Arizona. I have a bachelor's degree in history but am seriously considering going back to school to become a Registered Nurse after our youngest two get a little bit older. My husband is a teacher and I stay home (miraculously) with our 4 kids! Our life is simple but fulfilling. We appreciate the small things and take nothing for granted! Because money is tight, it has fostered in us the ability to live within our means and pass that along to our kids as well.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up as a Mormon with parents who had grown up Mormon. I never questioned my faith growing up. I attended church and did my best to be a good, kind person. As I left my parents home and went off to college, I realized it was time for me to decide if I lived my faith because of my family or for me. I realized quickly that while I did lean on my parents beliefs, they were also etched on my heart and I knew that the things I had learned growing up were true! As I kept the commandments, I felt peace, contentment and never had to wonder what I would do. If I had questions I knew that I could pray and receive answers and most importantly feel of the Lord's love for me...individually. As I continued through college and my relationship with my Heavenly Father and Savior grew, it seemed a natural progression for me to share the happiness I had with others. I decided to serve a mission for the church and was invited to labor in the upstate New York area. I put college, and everything else on hold and was afforded the opportunity of putting others needs above my own for the next 18 months. It was during this time that I was reminded of how a knowledge of God's plan for each of us can change lives. When you truly know who you are, that you are a child of God, it changes everything about you and how you treat others.

How I live my faith

I love being a Mormon. I love the importance that my faith places on family! I love the opportunity I have to be a wife and a mom to 4 kids!!! I don't take either of those blessings for granted because I know they are not guaranteed to everyone. None of it is easy, and I'm sure that many others do it way better than I do - but this is my life and it is what I make of it! I love my husband and we try to teach our kids daily to love everyone around them. We teach them by word (and hopefully example) to look for opportunities to be a friend to someone who may need a friend! We pray daily as a family and read the scriptures to grow closer to our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. I think that the way I live my faith best is through service. On a daily basis, this definitely means service to my family. I try to remember that I am not just cooking, cleaning, doing laundry and changing diapers. I am serving my family and teaching them that there is joy in service! I also have the opportunity to work with the children in our congregation. It is so amazing to witness the faith that children have at such young ages. They are humble and teachable and help me remember how I need to be to grow closer to my Savior.
