Hi I'm Katy

I'm from Colorado. I'm a runner. I'm going to be a middle school Health and History teacher. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently in college and will soon be graduating (yay!) where I am studying to become a Health and History teacher for middle school. I love to run. Running keeps me healthy, happy, and energized. I run half-marathons and marathons. Training for them teaches me discipline, courage, and to never give up. I was recently married to an incredible man who never ceases to make me smile. We love playing sports, inventing new sports, back-packing, going on scooter rides, going on creative dates and being with family and friends.

Why I am a Mormon

Being a Mormon was not always the easiest thing for me growing up in a predominantly non-LDS area. My beliefs were put to the test, but I gained so much from those trials. I developed a knowledge of who I am as a daughter of God who loves me "bunches and bunches," as a young girl exclaimed in church one day and which has stuck with me ever since. He truly does love each of us bunches and bunches. I know this because I have felt His love for me, and those feelings are pure joy. My life has been full of happy experiences, but the true joy that I get when I feel God's love beats any happy moment by far. Being a Mormon has taught me that God wants us to come to Him. I pray to my Father in Heaven because I know that He is listening. Not only does He listen to our prayers, but He answers them. I also know that God's power is here on earth. This is the power of the priesthood and I genuinely know that miracles happen because of it. I love to be outdoors and every time I am on top of a mountain, watching the sun set, or just taking a moment to be amazed by the world I am reminded that there is more to life that God has in store for us. Yes, crazy things are happening in the world, but there is still so much good. I'm a Mormon because it has taught me to recognize the good and to find out for myself that I am literally a daughter of God who loves me bunches and bunches! I'm a Mormon because the knowledge I have gained through genuine prayer, study, and fasting brings me unbeatable joy.

How I live my faith

Through school and church I have been able to work with all sorts of people who have taught me incredible things. Volunteering at a local Boys and Girls Club of America, helping in a classroom for disabled high school students, and working with the teenage girls of our church has opened my eyes to the amazing strength of the young people in the world. Those kids are full of potential, strength, and wisdom! It is such a neat experience to see a child "get" what they are being taught. I try to be a tool in God's hands by helping those around me feel the same love that I feel from God, no matter who they are. I have been able to serve as the leader of over 60 young adult women while I've been at college - encouraging them to recognize who they are and to reach out to each other. I have also been able to be a teacher for fellow students who are Mormon and to build great friendships with those I interact with. These leadership positions have taught me that there is no room for judgement of others because we have no idea what other people have experienced. Most of all, I live my faith by loving others and by seeing them as God would see them.
