Hi I'm Matt

I grew up in Arizona. I teach American History to junior high students. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Growing up my family was in the meat and cattle business. A few years after marriage it was necessary to find another carreer. Because my wife was a teacher, that is what I decided to do. What a great opportunity we had to raise our children because of that decission. We were able to spend lots of time together and we all loved it. Now that grandchildren are coming into our life we continue to be able to have the blessing of lots of time together. We love going to the beach and the mountains and enjoying our Heavenly Fathers creations.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because this is the true Church of Jesus Christ. I have a testimony of that, I know it to be true. Although I was raised in the church, like many members have been, it was still necessary to gain my own witness of the truthfulness of the gospel. There were several years of not living the standards of the gospeland sin, then one day it hit me that if I am to someday raise a family and raise them in the church I must gain my own witness that the Church is true. I took the challenge from Moroni, in the Book of Mormon, to heart. I read it, pondered it and prayed to know if it was true. Not only did a pray to know the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon, but also if Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God and if the true authority to act in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ rested in this church. My prayers were answered beyond any shadow of doubt. The spirit came to me and with that warm peaceful feeling filled my being that Jesus Christ stands at the head of this Church. Thomas S. Monson is his prophet and mouth piece today who directs the affairs of his Church the way the Savior would have him do. The priesthood has been restored for the benefit and blessing of all of our Heavenly Father's children. That if we abide by the principles and laws of the gospel we will expreience true joy while in this earthly state. As we love one another and do the things the Lord wants us to do we will, one day be allowed back into his presence where we can live with our families together forever. I am so greatful for my testimony and the peace it brings. That is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

My current calling in the Gospel is to serve as a Bishop or leader of a ward or congregation. As, I am sure, many who have had the opportunity to serve in this calling have felt, I would have never imagined that the calling would have come to me. I am extremely humbled to serve in this capacity. It gives opportunities to serve others in many, many ways. I have been able to give service to every age group and many different family dynamics that exist in the church today. I am not trained in counseling or teaching the gospel, however I do try to live my life in a way that will allow the spirit to guide what I do. I try to be a good example of the gospel by living the gospel standards. As members of the church, we are watched constantly to make sure that we follow the teachings that we believe. You never know if your actions one day might influence the actions of another sometime in the future. Our twenty seven year old daughter said to my wife a couple weeks ago, "you and Dad are always so relaxed anymore, nothing bothers you". That is one of the blessings of living the gospel of Jesus Christ , it brings peace to your soul and your life. Living the gospel helps you to understand the importance of things. It helps you to prioritize the things that you consider important. The material things of life are of no consequence. It is the spiritual things in life that matter. It is the spiritual things that we hold important and seek after. We attend our meetings regularly. We go to the Temple. We try to obey the commandments. We do the things our Savior would have us do so that we may one day be worthy to return to him. Sometimes there are bumps in the road and we make wrong decissions or choices, everyone does but that is the great thing about the gospel plan, you pick yourself up, brush yourself off and by repenting and putting the atonement of the Savior into action we get going again.
