Hi I'm Kathy

I am a teacher and I love family history and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love my family; I am a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a sister, an aunt and a cousin. Family is very important to me. My brothers and sister are my closest friends. Spending time with my family is so much fun; we enjoy each other's company and we laugh all the time. My favorite thing to do is to work on family history. I love tracing my family tree and meeting new relatives. I also am a teacher by profession. I Have taught high school for many years before retiring. Currently I teach Biology and Psychology for a local university. I enjoy reading all types of books, particularly biographies. I have always been intrigued by George Washington and I have enjoyed learning about some of the founders of our country. I love my country and I am grateful for those who have sacrificed their lives so that we can enjoy the freedoms that we have today. I like to help other people. Serving others is a basic belief of our church. Service can be given in the small, everyday acts that take very little time or we can give of our time and talents in service to others for longer time periods and in greater ways.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon for the simple reason that I know the gospel is true. I was nine and a half years old when the missionaries came to our door. We had been to several churches in my childhood. My mother wanted to find the church that followed the teachings of the Savior. I remember listening to the missionaries and feeling a safe and happy feeling inside. I knew that the concepts they were teaching us were true. My mother and I were baptized; my father was baptized a few months later. My life is centered around my family and the church and the Lord has blessed our lives in countless ways. I know the church is true. I know that our Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ love each of us very much. They know our needs and our challenges; they understand our joys and our sorrows. If we want to feel of their influence in our lives we need to turn to them. I know we have a prophet on the earth today and he will leads us and guide us in the way of truth. I love to read the scriptures, particularly the Bible and the Book of Mormon. I know both of those sacred volumes of scripture are true and contain the word of God. I am thankful for the concept of eternal families and that we can live again with our Heavenly Father and all of our family members if we are faithful and strive to live the commandments. The Mormon church is like an oasis in the desert; it provides the nourishment to our bodies and spirits that we are seeking.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by serving in whatever capacity I am called upon to do. In the past I have worked with the youth and the children in various ways. I have also been a choir director and served in callings where I worked mostly with the adults. Currently, I am a the Family History Center Director in our center. I assist members and nonmembers in their search for their ancestors. It is a wonderful calling. There are so many resources available for us to find out about those who have gone before us. It is fun to see how excited our patrons become as they find information about a grandparent or any other relative in their family tree. Family History helps is feel the strength of those who are our ancestors; it helps us to be grateful for all they have done for us. Family History work helps us to leave a legacy for our children and grandchildren.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Kathy
The Word of Wisdom is the Lord's law of health given to Joseph Smith in 1833. We are taught that our bodies are like a temple to our Heavenly Father and that we need to keep our bodies clean, healthy, and strong so that we may feel of His Spirit. We do this by eating nutritious food and staying fit. We also avoid those things that are harmful to our bodies, such as tobacco, alcohol, illegal drugs, and coffee and tea. We believe if we live the Word of Wisdom we will be blessed physically and spiritually. I know that as I strive to live the Word of Wisdom I feel physically stronger, sharper mentally and more in tune with the Spirit of the Lord. Show more Show less
