Hi I'm Hyrum

I hail from Missouri. I study microbiology. I love chess, tennis, swimming, and hiking. I consider myself an amateur storyteller.

About Me

I am studying to become a doctor. I am passionate about education, community issues, scientific research, and my family. I derive great pleasure from reading the daily paper. I work in a molecular biology lab. I have a firm belief that science and religion do not necessarily have to be at odds with each other.

Why I am a Mormon

I have had spiritual experiences that have helped me develop faith that God is truly there for me personally. When I pray---I feel God is listening. I have also felt cleansed from sin through the process of repentance that Christ consistently taught. I choose to be a member of this church because I have a belief that it teaches correct principles that will benefit me and my future family. I feel profound peace when I reflect on my decision to become a member of this great Church. This church is not perfect, but it is lead by people who are diligently seeking to know what God would have them do.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by striving to glimpse God's hand in everyday life. I love being out in nature and seeing sacred places that God has created.

What is the Church’s position on abortion?

Life is sacred. Anyone like I who has witnessed a birth can attest to the fact that there is a strong spirit of happiness in the room when the newborn ultimately arrives. Abortion is a huge decision and must be done keeping God in the equation. Our Church does not prohibit abortion entirely, but reserves it for extenuating circumstances, which are almost exclusively, limited to rape, incest, or health of the mother. Show more Show less

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

I have faith that God is watching over us. I choose to look for God in my life even when there are reasons not to believe. I have felt his love for me especially when I choose to repent and try to become my best self. I can't explain his divine love, but I know I have experienced it. I often feel this divine love when I pray, read scripture, or do service. Due to these experiences I choose to believe that it is God who is there helping me and teaching me. From my experiene it seems that God often works through us to accomplish his purposes. When someone is doing something good I think I can often find the hand of God there. Show more Show less
