Hi I'm Heather

I'm a wife and mother of four. I'm a teacher. I love to run, garden and bake. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in both Eastern Canada and Western Canada. I went to school and played sports along the way. During college I worked as a rowing coach, summer camp counsellor and at a juice bar. I went to university and obtained my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. I met my husband at university. We have four children. I like to go running. I love the book Jane Eyre. I love gardening with a passion. I love my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because it makes me happy. I was raised in the church. My parent's taught us the gospel in our home and we went to church most Sundays, even when we were on holidays. When I was about fourteen I started going to an early morning scripture study class. We were studying The Doctrine and Covenants, one of our books of scripture. I learned more about Joseph Smith, a young man who wanted to know which church he should join. He prayed and asked God and God told him to join none of the churches and that God had a special thing for him to do. He was to help restore God's true church to the earth. I learned of the sacrifices Joseph made in his young life, I read the Book of Mormon that he translated and I came to know that Joseph was called of God and that the Book of Mormon was true. I just wanted to do what was right. I felt happy as I followed the teaching of Jesus Christ. I came to feel the love that God had for me and I felt like I was valued and that I could make a difference in the world.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to do what I know is true and right and good. I try to be a good neighbour. I try to be kind, honest and loving. I try to teach my children to love each other and to be understanding and patient with each other. In the church I teach a group of ladies who live in our area. I teach once a month. We discuss different topics like family, faith and forgivness. We share stories and experiences. We discuss ways we can be better. There is a wide range of women, with all sorts of different life experiences. I often leave feeling uplifted and supported.

What are Mormon Temples used for?

Our temples are places where we can feel close to God and Jesus Christ. They are literally the House of the Lord. They are places where we are reminded and instructed of the purpose of life. We learn of the eternal nature of the human spirit and that this life isn't all there is to our existence. They are places where baptisms are performed for those who have died. Individuals make promises with God to follow and serve Him. Families are joined together forever. I was married in the temple. Because of this my little family can be together forever. I have heard people say 'heaven wouldn't be heaven without my family.' I feel the same way. I love the temple. I love how I feel there. I have performed baptisms on behalf of people who have died so they can choose to join Christ's church. I love that I can help other people have that same joy that I feel as a member of His church.
