Hi I'm Sam

I'm a lucky husband, a father of three strapping boys, a wrestling aficionado, an insurance underwriter, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Northern California in a family of nine in a God-fearing home. My parents helped my siblings and me foster faith in Jesus Christ and develop personal worship habits. When I left my childhood home, I studied at Ricks College and Washington State University, earning a finance degree and an MBA in International Business. Two significant experiences changed me during my college years. First, I served as a full-time, proselyting missionary for the Church in Boston, MA and Brazil. The second experience was meeting and marrying the woman of my dreams. We now live in Colorado with our three sons and I work as a commercial underwriter in the property and casualty insurance industry. I enjoy reading, wrestling (especially with my boys), learning, and conversing with my wife.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents started me on the road to faith but I was only content to live off of borrowed light for so long. My conversion to the restored gospel of Jesus Christ was not an event, but a gradual process. The apostle Paul speaks of faith as “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1) This substance, or evidence spoken of by Paul can be described as promptings of the Spirit of God, or gentle impressions upon the soul. This evidence, this voice of the Spirit has touched my mind and heart, confirming the truth of eternal realities. I believe that God the Father lives and that Jesus Christ gave his life for the sins of the world because I have felt the soft, confirming witness in my heart. That same quiet assurance has confirmed to my heart that God inspires men in our day, even prophets, to teach and lead in a confused and chaotic world. These heaven sent personal witnesses, accumulated over time, are why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

The sweet, gentle promptings of the Spirit of God entice us to do good. Because of this influence, I strive to treat those around me with respect, kindness, and honor. I strive to be honest in all of my interactions and obey the laws of the land. Our Church seeks opportunities to help the poor and the needy, through the donation of time, energy, and means. While my personal sacrifices are often underwhelming, I feel great inner peace and joy when I strive to strengthen those within our community. I also try to be a good husband and father, teaching by word and deed the precepts our Church espouses.
