Hi I'm Asa

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

While growing up I worked on my grandfather’s farm. He was a renowned physician and surgeon who kept a few hundred acres of farm and ranch land to raise grandkids on. I worked on a hay bailer crew, combine crew, haul it out of the field and stack it crew, herded beef, rode horses, hoed weeds and beets and swatted mosquitoes. Later I inspected fruit for the state, worked in a printing shop, worked for the forest service in blister rust control and as a smokejumper. Finally, after tiring of hard work and graduating from BYU I went into the U S Air Force to fly. Mostly I flew the B 52. After 10 years I went to work for an airline and flew for another 28 years until the government mandated retirement age of 60. I am now 77. I loved adventurous things: snow skiing, skin and scuba diving, water skiing, motorcycle riding, parachute jumping, paraglider flying, even a bungee jump from a bridge in New Zealand.

Why I am a Mormon

Even with all the excitement in my life I never had a more exhilarating experience than when I read the book of Mormon and the Holy Spirit bore witness to me. I was overcome with a feeling of incredible joy and knew that the book was true. With that came the witness that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God. I learned of the incomparable atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ and knew that the Church of Jesus Christ of LDS was true and certainly accepted by the Savior as truly Christian. My ancestors were pioneer stock but I still had to learn for myself and receive the answer, borne by the Spirit, to the promise made in the Book of Mormon. Throughout my life I have had many undeniable answers to prayers. I have seen the workings of the Lord and achieved with His help things I could not do alone.

How I live my faith

I have worked with young men in scouting and other church programs. I have served as a missionary in local areas where I have lived to testify of Jesus Christ and His divinity. My wife and I served a mission together near London England. I have taught Sunday School and other classes. I have served in some leadership positions. Currently I work in a Temple and in a calling that consists of giving personal blessings. Mostly, I recognize that the way to serve God best is to be a good husband to my dear wife, my companion of nearly 58 years, whom I dearly love and cherish, and to be a good father, grandfather and great grandfather to the rest of my family; to do all I can to keep them near to the Savior in all they do.
