Hi I'm Ashley

Life is sweet and good!

About Me

I'm in my third year at college studying psychology. After I graduate, I am planning on becoming an R.N. where I can serve people through nursing! I was recently assigned to be a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and I'm going to serve in the beautiful Arizona Mesa Mission for 18 months! I love life and I am so grateful to be on this lovely planet. I love my family and my friends. I also love the beautiful things about life such as music, nature, different cultures, and serving those around me.

Why I am a Mormon

Through studying the scriptures and praying, I have come to know that Jesus Christ lives and that He died for me and suffered for all of my sins and pain. I love Him so much and I am very grateful for the gift He has given me. Because of Jesus Christ, all of my pain and guilt is swept away through His suffering, called the Atonement. I want to follow Him and do His will because that will make me happy. Christ wants me to be happy, so He has taught me the gospel. It is explained by the Plan of Happiness. The Plan of Happiness tells us that we lived with our Heavenly Father (God) before we came to earth. We then came to earth to be given a body and to experience trials that will help us become more like our Savior, Jesus Christ. On this earth, we also strive to change our lives--or repent--so that we are more like the Savior. After we die, we will be resurrected and we have the potential to live with our families and loved ones forever. We will live again with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Because of this Plan, I know who I am; I know why I am here and why life is sometimes hard; I know what my potential is; I know there is a purpose to life. Following the Savior helps me to feel happiness and peace.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by being obedient to the commandments of the gospel. Obedience brings us blessings. For every commandment we keep, there is a blessing attached to that commandment. If we obey the commandment, we will receive that blessing. A quote I love is by Marjorie Pay Hinckley, the wife of President Gordan B. Hinckley, who was the president of the Church several years ago. She said "today I obey, tomorrow I understand." Sometimes we do not know why we need to be obedient, but because we love God and His Son, Jesus Christ, we are obedient to Them. I know that obedience brings blessings--large and small. Throughout the many challenges and trials in life, living an obedient life will bring the peace we seek. No matter what happens to us, we will be happy and at peace because we are doing what the Savior would have us do. I know that obedience blesses my life. If we keep the commandments, we will be happy, we will have peace, and we will feel loved and important. I know this is true.

How are modesty and chastity related? How can parents teach their children to be modest in dress, language and behavior?

Our bodies were given to us as gifts from God to house our eternal spirits. They are sacred temples. When we are modest in dress and in language, we are demonstrating the sacredness of our bodies. It is an outward expression of an inward commitment to follow Christ in respecting our body as a temple. I think you can teach your children to be modest in dress, language, and behavior first by example. When you follow those commitments, your children will recognize that you esteem those behaviors as important. They will learn from your example. You can also teach them the sacred purpose of why we are modest. We are modest because our bodies are temples. Teach and testify from an early age and help them to understand why we do what we do. Teach them that above all, we are modest because that is what Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ want us to do, and we love them so much we will follow Their commandments. We love Them because They first loved us. They have our best interests in mind. That is why they give us commandments. They seek only for our eternal, lasting happiness. Show more Show less

What is the Law of Chastity?

One of the privileges of living on this earth is that we become co-creators with God in bringing His spirit children to earth. This is a sacred power that He has given us. It is essential that we use this power in a way that is acceptable to Him. It is offensive to God to abuse this power or use it solely for our personal gratification. The Law of Chastity is saving physical intimacy for marriage between a man and a woman. It is to never lust after a man or a woman. With obeying the Law of Chastity comes blessings. If you keep these commandments, you receive the very powerful and sacred blessings that come with living this law: confidence, a sense of beauty and purpose, a peaceful heart and mind, and knowledge that the Lord is pleased with your decisions.
