Hi I'm Greg

I was born and raised in Texas. I play drums. I want to become a music teacher and I'm a Mormon

About Me

I've lived in Texas and have been a mormon all my life. I love music and I play the drums. I was on the drumline for my high school and loved it and miss it. I love history and math and might become a school teacher but I don't know yet. I did a little bit of my general courses at a community school but am now serving as a missionary by my own choice. I am the youngest of 4 kids, I have 2 brothers and 1 sister. 1 brother is married and has a daughter who I love to death, and my sister is also married.

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up as a mormon, most people claim it to be easy. I say you still have to make the choice to accept it or not. Sure my parents forced me to go to church as a boy but that's what a parent has to do to their kids. It's like school. Kids don't want to go to school yet their parents still force them to go. When I was 14 I really really started questioning whether it was true or not, whether Joseph Smith really did see God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ. I questioned the Book of Mormon because I never read it. For 3 years I questioned my family's belief but never took the time to search for the truth myself until I was 17. When I picked up the Book of Mormon and started reading it, I learned the comfort and peace I got from it was something I wanted with me at all times. One day I got into a huge arguement with one of my closest friends and I thought we were never going to talk again. Right when our conversation ended I sat in my frustrated and angry, but then I saw my Book of Mormon and felt that I needed to open it so I did. For an hour and a half I just read scriptures and then felt really impressed in my heart and mind to text my friend. When I got their response we apologized to each other and then explained what we did. We both read the Book of Mormon and felt peace and comfort like never before. That night I prayed to God to know whether or not the Book of Mormon is true. I felt the same exact feelings I get from reading it and heard a small voice, smaller than a whisper, say "it's true". I felt the Holy Ghost testify to me that the Book of Mormon is true. Because the Book of Mormon is true, then Joseph Smith had to have seen Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. And if that is true, then they must have called young Joseph to be a Prophet of God. If a Prophet is on the Earth, then the same exact church that Christ made must be on the Earth. It took me 17 years to learn this when it shouldn't have. I hope you take to the time to learn it sooner than me.

How I live my faith

In one of the classes I was in at church, whenever a question was asked, it became a discussion. It wasn't just a teacher and students, it was students at different levels. All of us would share experiences we had and we each learned from each other as one person directed the thought process. It is the best setting to learn and not worry if someone knew more than me knowing that they did. I was a little afraid to share my experiences because everyone was older than me, but when I did, I realized that some things I knew, they didn't and things they knew, I didn't. We're all learning together.

What is the priesthood?

The priesthood is the authority or permission to act in God's name. Every Prophet throughout the Bible has had that authority and sometimes gave it to others to help direct the church. During the time of Jesus Christ, he gave the priesthood authority to twelve men to help him lead the church. All male members prepare to receive the priesthood in order to help lead the church and offer service to Heavenly Father's children. A man may give service with the authority by leading a congregation of the church, perform ordinances of the church such as baptism, and bless those who are sick. God expects those who hold the priesthood authority to follow the example of Jesus Christ and serve with love, gentleness, and kindness. Show more Show less

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

The Atonement of Jesus Christ consists of 3 parts. His suffering in the Garden of Gethsemane, His death on the cross, and His resurrection. Through His suffering in the Garden of Gethsemane we can repent and be cleansed of our sins. Jesus Christ faced death willingly to release us from death and He did that with His resurrection. Because Jesus Christ was resurrected, everyone else will be resurrected. In order for us to live with Heavenly Father we must become clean from sin and Jesus Christ is the only way we can become clean. If we are to have the full effect of the Atonement of Jesus Christ, we must first have faith in Him, repent of our sins, be baptized and confirmed by someone having the authority, receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, obey God's commandments, receive sacred ordinances like baptism, and strive to become like Him. Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

We worship God the Father and His son Jesus Christ. We acknowledge the Prophet Joseph Smith for being a tool in the Lord's hands in restoring the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the priesthood authority of God. Show more Show less

Why is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called Mormons or Mormonism?

The reason we are called Mormons is because we believe in the Book of Mormon as the word of God, which goes hand in hand with the Bible. It is simply a nickname that was given to us. In 1838, Joseph Smith received revelation that the church should be called the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and that is the official title of the church. Show more Show less
