Hi I'm Thom

I have a beautiful wife and two great children. I teach 8th Grade English, and coach high school drama. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My wife and I are the parents of two young children: a daughter and a son. I teach English at a middle school, and coach drama at the high school for the same district. I love to read and write; my genre of choice is fantasy for both. I have been involved in drama on and off since I was in high school. I love the outdoors also. I enjoy hiking and fishing in the summer, and snowshoeing in the winter.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised as a Mormon, and I continue in this faith because of the true joy, peace, and hope that the gospel offers. I love my family--both the family I am helping raise, and the family that raised me--and the knowledge that I can be with them forever--even after death--brings me more joy than I can describe. In high school, I struggled with some depression, but it wasn't a doctor who gave me the strength to continue, and overcome it. It was prayer, and reading the Book of Mormon, and the faith that my family had in me that got me through it. I have had too many prayers answered for it to be coincidence. As a teacher, I deal a lot with logic, or what I call "head sense," and as a drama coach, I deal a lot with emotion, or "heart sense." I am a firm believer that you need both. The things that bring the most joy--true joy--need to make sense logically, and they need to feel right. That is the gospel of Jesus Christ. It makes sense that God wants us to be happy, not just here, but for eternity. And the love that God has for His children feels great!

How I live my faith

I help lead the men of my ward and their families. I check up on them and see what the church can do to help them with any family struggles. In my community, I strive to be a good example for the students I teach, and for the community as a whole. I participate in school district leadership so that I can do my part in meeting the needs of the students. When I select plays for the drama club, I try to choose plays that reach out to the community and teach valuable lessons about moral living. I do my best to live my faith through example by treating people with respect and kindness.

Are Mormons Christians?

Yes! We believe in Jesus Christ. We believe that he suffered and died for us, and that he was resurrected and still lives today. Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer. Show more Show less
