Hi I'm Jeff Hemmingsen

I grew up on a farm in Iowa. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a father of five children and I am also a Pediatric Dentist. This gives me the opportunity to be taught by children on a regular basis. I like to observe my children at home and while working. They teach me so much about the world around us by what they say and do. I love their sweet innocence and how they view life. I truly cherish the quiet moments with my children; and sometimes even the not so quiet moments !!! We are in a very busy stage of life. I find I can accomplish a lot more and have peace of mind, despite my busy schedule, when I start off each day right. Early in the morning I can have quiet moments reading the scriptures and exercising. I also enjoy my quiet moments in my shop working on little wood projects. Another personal passion of mine is watching college football. I like to tell people all I lacked was talent, speed and size. If it had not been for that, I could have played in college. :-) My wife is the most important person on this planet to me. She means everything to me. She loves me despite knowing all of my short comings. When we were first married we decided to have a contest to see who could be the nicest to the other. That was almost 20 years ago. A winner has not been declared yet. It's a tight race.

Why I am a Mormon

Upon graduating from high school I knew I was at a cross roads in life. I had been searching for answers about the "tough" questions on life. I never felt they were answered until I was put into contact with missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Most everything they taught me I felt I all ready knew; I just needed to have someone tell me. I promised myself if I were to join this church I would be 100% dedicated. I would go on a mission. I would be married in the temple. I would remain faithful. So, far I have been so blessed to realize these goals. This is not to say there have not been challenges. Life is full of them. But with the perspective of the Gospel of Jesus Christ I have been able to battle through life. No matter what the obstacle, when I am actively seeking to live the Gospel I can always find peace in my heart. The Savior is there for all of us. We just have to choose to let him in. I remember the missionaries telling me before baptism. To have Jesus Christ in your life you need to be actively seeking Him out. You need to pray. You need to study the scriptures. You need to go to church. You need to keep the commandments. If you don't and you lead a passive life, the adversary will find you. You won't have to do anything. He will destroy you spiritually. I have seen this occur in my life when I am obedient to God's commandments vs. when I drift spiritually. Fortunately, the Holy Ghost corrects me and I feel the love of the Savior each time I repent and get back on track. I am so grateful he is always there for me.

How I live my faith

Over the years I have been asked to serve in a number of positions in the church. I have taught many types of classes. I have been asked to lead missionaries, young men, and in other positions. I served in these capacities for no monetary reward but because I felt it is what the Savior would want me to do. It is my goal in life to become like a child. They are perfect and so Christ-like. My favorite scripture challenges me to, "...put off the natural man and becometh a saint through the atonement of Christ the Lord, and becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his father." We are all on a journey in life to turn ourselves over to the Lord. We have to be willing to give of our time and talents. This is not always an easy thing for me. There are so many things I like to do for me. I know as I exercise the proper balance in life I will be blessed. So, I go to church every Sunday. I fulfill the things which my leaders ask me to do. I love and serve my family. I pray to know what the Lords wants me to do and then I try to do it. It is not always easy to listen to the promptings of the Spirit because there are so many distractions in the world we live in. As we put off the natural man and focus on serving Him the noises of a busy of life fade into the distance and our purpose here becomes more clear. Someday it will be crystal clear when He reigns again on earth. I pray I will be ready, in other words, like a child.
