Hi I'm Dave Rich

I was raised Lutheran in Southern California am now a father of five, grandfather of seven and happily married. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a wood craftsman, trained in the art of pattern making. Wood pattern makers are a dying bread. I own a small shop and do work for local foundries. My 1,600 square foot shop is located in my backyard.and I enjoy building new projects as they become available. Many of the skills have been replaced with computer controlled machines which I have not learned how to use. Times are difficult as we struggle day to day to make ends meet and keep a positive attitude. I am learning a new skill as i attempt to take on line CAD classes. There is always something to look forward to each day.

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up in the Lutheran Church gave raise to many questions as I came into my teen years. i would find myself in the Pastor's office asking question no one else could answer, even he could not answer or would not answer. That is when i began seeking answers elsewhere. Many churches and many bible study groups later answers were scarce. At the age of nineteen I met a person who had just joined the LDS church. I did not know much about the church but everything I did now let me to believe that the church was evil and a cult. Funny thing was, my new friend was kind, considerate, honest and happy to answer any and all of the questions that had gone unanswered by religious scholars for years. The puzzle pieces began to come together, things began to make sense, the picture was finally becoming very clear. I discovered Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father in a way that I had never known them, they became real to me. My testimony flourished and grew. 35 years later I continue to learn new things and am very happy to have strong testimony of Jesus Christ and His Father and the Holy Ghost.

How I live my faith

I serve as the chairman for a monthly dance we host for the youth in our area. Our average attendance is around 450 kids between the ages of 14 -18. These kids are very well behaved, modestly dressed and groomed as well as polite and courteous. We have a live DJ and use pre-selected songs that current songs the kids enjoy but at the same time have good lyrics and a good beat. Once a year we sponsor another dance which is an alternative to the high school prom. This came about a few years ago when a group of our youth attended their high school prom and were embarrassed by the lack of standards in clothing, music and dance. Our Spring Formal has been in existence ever since, we had over 800 youth at this years dance. All of them dressed in modest formal attire and dancing to modest music and have the time of their lives.
