Hi I'm Alex

I grew up in the states. I went to school for aerospace engineering, waited tables and am back in school. I'm a Mormon. ta-da!

About Me

I just got married a couple months ago to an amazing lass. We also just bought our first house together. I have applied to go to grad school for aerospace engineering, and am anxiously awaiting hearing back from them. I like to play sports, I play the cello, the piano a bit and sing. I also really like billiards and I love to read, most of which is sci-fi and fanstasy.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church, and from a young age felt it was good and right. I felt comfortable deep down being a part of this church, but didn't know for myself it was true. And I'm not talking about the kind of 'true' that people use to say that contradictory belief sets are all true. I do not believe that all paths lead to God. I believe that all paths can lead to the one path back to God if one will listen to God's promptings. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints claims to be the only true church in the world and I believe that. I also believe that God is just and that everyone will have an opportunity to embark on and journey down this singular path. So, not knowing for myself if it was true, growing up it became inconvenient to follow the rules if it wasn't the truth so I had to find out for sure for myself. To find out I studied the Book of Mormon and prayed. I was reading and studying for a serious portion of my day for about a month and often asked if the book was true in my daily prayers. When I received my answer it was impossible to dismiss. In describing it, I think it sounds like far less of an experience than it was. I had just asked if the book was true and had a distinct thought come into my head. It was " How could it not be true?" This thought was accompanied by a strong feeling of peace and I felt intensely that this was the truth. If the book is true, then Joseph Smith who translated it was a prophet and did restore the church of Christ as he claimed to have done. I know that this is the case from the answer God gave me. I also know that we have a modern prophet today named Spencer Monson and that this church is led by Christ himself through modern revelation given to this modern prophet. I know that God loves each of us as a perfect parent loves each of their children and that He wants to and does answer our prayers. I know that following God's will leads to our happiness.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by reading my scriptures daily. My fiancee and I do this together. I also pray every day. I try to bless my food before every main meal in addition to my other prayers. I serve in a calling for my congregation. I pick the hymns we will sing every Sunday at worship services and arrange for special musical numbers to be performed by members of the congregation a couple times a month. I also visit several members of the congregation monthly (at least i try to make it monthly) to deliver a short spiritual message, offer service and check on their overall wellbeing.
