Hi I'm Rachel

I grew up in up-state New York. I am a public high school science teacher. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up on an apple farm and I love to be outdoors. Running, hiking, swimming, and bike riding with my husband are some of the activities I enjoy side. I also love gardening, and everything I learned about gardening, I learned from my mom. While I was in college I lived on a horse farm and grew to love horses and caring for animals. Now I am a public high school science teacher. My passion is biology, but I have taught chemistry, physics, earth science, and environmental science. My husband and I both share an interest in biology, talking about DNA at first site!

Why I am a Mormon

My parents were both converts to the His Church. They met each other shortly after they were baptized. My parents taught me about the gospel and when I was eight I was baptized. This is not the point where I lived happily ever after. When I was a teenager I was rebellious and became inactive in His church. I did not abandon the values which my parents taught and I still abided by the word of wisdom. However, I did not have a testimony for myself. After many trials in my life I realized that no matter what, if we turn to our Heavenly Father in prayer, and we diligently study our scriptures, The Book of Mormon, The Bible, and The Pearl of Great Price, we will be blessed. Our lives will have purpose, we will learn, we will grow spiritually and be guided by the Holy Ghost. I love the gospel, it brings me great joy. I wouldn’t want to live my live any other way. That is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

When I became active again in church I was teaching full time and I was asked to teach a Sunday School Class. My first reaction was the “human” reaction… I thought “but I already have so much to do.” One thing I have learned in the church, the Lord does not give you more than you can handle. Accepting that calling was the best thing, my faith grew, my love for people and our Heavenly Father grew.
