Hi I'm Gil

I'm a 6-gen Mormon, a doctor & Air Force Officer. I love to study, travel, serve and protect. I believe in Jesus Christ.

About Me

I started in chemistry before medical school. I have built new hetero-cyclic molecules and published research on antihistamines. I have delivered over 1,000 babies, spent endless hours in emergency rooms and enjoyed 4 promotions in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Air Force. I love to solve puzzles and fix things. I have travelled to 45 countries and lived overseas twice. I have served in five different war-zones where along with great suffering, I have witnessed great blessings and life circumstances change for the better. During this exciting career I have maintained a strong relationship with the Lord, my wife and my five children. I now have 5 grandchildren and hope for and expect more. As my career winds down, I look forward to spending more time with them and find great hope and joy believing that through the grace of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we can stay united as a family--forever.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a Mormon family, but the reason I stayed a Mormon is because I read the Book of Mormon, prayed and received a powerful witness in my heart that it was true. Many people have challenged me over the years. I remember visiting the British Museum in London and a fellow officer poked me in the chest and said, "so, Gil, where do you see the Book of Mormon in this display?"--pointing to the ancient America display about the Mayas. I responded, "I don't, but the fact that parallel cultures lived at the same time as the Book of Mormon people does not surprise or dissuade me from believing. I have my witness, and that is really all I need." You too can learn that Jesus is the Christ by reading the Book of Mormon. If you already believe that Jesus is the Christ, you can learn more about his ministry and teachings in the Book of Mormon--it is a powerful witness that supports the Bible and is so needed in this day when so many people are turning from believing in the Bible.

How I live my faith

First, I pray every single day to God in the name of Jesus Christ that He will extend his grace to me another day, forgive me of any misdeed or inaction from yesterday and help me to serve other people today. I try to extend genuine love and affection to my wife every morning and evening and only speak to her in kind tones following the example of my father. During the day, I look for ways to help people by holding doors open, smiling or extending a word of cheer. I never push religion on anyone, but when the occasional question comes my way, I let people know that I am a devoted disciple of Christ. I attend church every Sunday and eagerly take assignments to go to homes to help. I have cut trees, pulled weeds, mowed lawns, watched children, built fences, painted walls and done other service to help others in time of need. Since I am experienced (that is a code for "old") I teach others how to serve in their congregations. I balance this with family time, time in the garden and time studying. I enjoy the fact that everywhere I have moved in the world there have been other Mormons to fellowship with and serve with.
