Hi I'm Shaylen

I'm a nursing student and mother of three. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love being a mom and am looking forward to working as a nurse when I finish school. I never thought I would end up in the medical field, but when I was diognosed with cancer in my early twenties I had the chance to reasses what was important in my life. After the cancer I wanted more than ever, to help others as Christ did. Nursing seemed to be a good fit for me. Going back to college with three school aged children at home has been anything but easy, but I feel good knowing I am showing my children the importance of hard work and education. Most of all I hope they see that serving others is my main goal and is worth sacrificing self for.

Why I am a Mormon

Both of my parents joined the church when they were young adults. Each of them remain the only members of their families. I watched them as I grew up and saw how important following Christ was to them. They taught me and my brothers and sisters the stories of Jesus' life and of his sacrifice for us. My parents worked hard to provide for our family and while we never had a lot, the spirit of the Lord always filled our home and my heart. I cannot remember a time when I did not feel the love of my Father in Heaven in my life, when I did not have the desire to follow his son Jesus christ. Much of that is due to the example my parents set for me. As an adult I continue to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ through his restored gospel on the earth. I know that this is his church and that he is at the head.

How I live my faith

Part of being a member of the church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints is the opportunity to serve others. It is one of the things I love most about the church. Over the years I have had the chance to serve the children in the church in many ways. As I have taught and shared the stories of Jesus' life with these young children my conversion to Christ and his teachings have strengthened. I understand better now why Jesus said we should all become as a little child, meek and humble. I have loved the chance to learn from these sweet little children of God. Serving within the church has made it easier for me to get out into my community and into my children's school and serve God's children there. It has truly been a blessing to my life!
