Hi I'm Alan

I live in Provo Utah, I can ride a unicycle, I appreciate a good piece of art, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am now 22 years old, and still the favorite of six kids in my family. I grew up in American Fork Utah, but I am now living in Provo, studying computer science at BYU. I'm a loyal cougar! I love to play ultimate frisbee, go on road trips to Seattle, scuba dive, and my favorite food is free food. I owe every good part of myself to my kind parents, my fun siblings (including in-laws, nieces, nephews, etc...), and my forgiving Father in Heaven.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because this is a faith that teaches us to be good, kind, and selfless people. I believe in Jesus Christ as the Savior of the world, and I believe that he would teach us all to be the same. He lived a completely selfless life, and I have taken it upon myself to be the same way. I am a Mormon also because I believe that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is God's only true church established on the Earth, and that this is the way that I will return home to Him after this life, to live with Him forever. I believe in the Book of Mormon as a real ancient record, with accurate and true doctrine about how we should live our lives. I remember reading through it cover to cover for the first time. I remember that even though I never could finish reading a book for school (I had little patience for reading...), once I buried myself in the pages of the Book of Mormon, I could not pull myself back out, I just couldn't put it down! Not until I had read every word. I immediately felt my entire life begin to improve, little by little. I felt happier! And I began to have a better understanding of my purpose in life and living. I still feel all those feelings when I read from the Book of Mormon today, and I take it as an answer directly from God that it is a true book, and that every part of my life can be changed for the better by focusing my thoughts on Him.

How I live my faith

I live my faith in part by dwelling on the good I see in people. I grew up with a family who is quick to compliment, and never holds back a kind thought, and that has helped me appreciate the value of a good deed. I've found that I feel closer to God when I think about others. I feel close to God when I have forgotten about my own selfish problems, and have found ways to improve lives around me.

Mormons believe Jesus Christ is their Savior. Why do we need a Savior?

We believe that all men and women are in a fallen state and in order to live with our Heavenly Father after we die, in a completely perfect and happy state, we need to be saved. Jesus Christ is the means whereby we are saved. Being saved includes being healed from any physical, emotional, spiritual, or any type of infliction that we might suffer from. So by living the way that Jesus Christ, the Savior, has taught us to live, he can then heal us of our weaknesses and we can live happier lives now, and an eternally happy life after we die!
