Hi I'm Arie

I grew up in Denver, Colorado. I am married and have 4 kids. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have been married to my wife since 1993. I have 2 boys and 2 girls. I work for a company that shreds confidential materials in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It is about a 1 hour commute for me to drive one way to work. Since my commute is so long, I enjoy listening to books on tape which help the time go by fast. I also enjoy watching crime solving shows on TV such as Criminal Minds, and NCIS. i enjoy mowing my grass even though looking at it it wouldn't seem like it. I also enjoy going to watch Demolition Derbies. As a family we also enjoy traveling, in the last few years we have been to Hawaii, on a cruise to the Bahamas, South Padre Island, Florida, Virginia, and California.

Why I am a Mormon

I come from a long line of Mormons. I have relatives that came across the plains in the early days of the church. My parents and grand parents on both sides were all active members of the church. Even though I grew up in the church, I needed to know for myself that it was the church that Jesus had set up to get us back to Heavenly Father. When I was 17, I was laying in bed and thinking about serving a 2 year mission for the church and I remember thinking, I don't even know if the church is true. How can I serve a mission and teach people about the gospel if I don't even know it is true. As soon as I thought this I felt a very warm almost hot feeling in my chest. It was a feeling that I had never felt before and only a few times since but not as strong. I would ask, is the church true? The feeling was strong. Then I would ask if the church wasn't true and the feeling would go away. I would ask again if it was true and it would come back again. I did that about five times and each time I asked if it was false the feeling went away. When I asked again if it was true the feeling came back. I knew that the church was true for myself. I know that Heavenly Father knows each of us by name. He wants us to do what is required of us to be able to return with him someday. I know the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the true church of God on the earth today. I also know the Book of Mormon was written by prophets of old that lived here in America. I know that Joseph Smith translated the plates and that through Jesus he restored the true church again to the Earth.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith by attending all my church meetings. I am a Webelos leader in the Cub Scout organization and I am able to help those boys advance in scouting.

Why is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called Mormons or Mormonism?

Arie
We are called "The Mormons" because we believe that the Book of Mormon to be scripture from prophets of old that lived in the American continent. We believe that God will always teach his children through his prophets just as he did for the people in the Bible. The Book of Mormon contains those teachings. We also believe that the Bible contains teachings of the prophets on the other side of the world. The early church members got this nickname because of their belief in the Book of Mormon, and it has carried on all these years. Show more Show less
