Hi I'm Gordon

I'm a Mormon. I am a 6th generation mormon and a 11 generation citizen of the USA

About Me

I am a retired Air Force Officer. I have helped to define the quick response capability of the AF used today and the skills needed to meet contingencies around the world. I have been a party to the encouragement of the development of computer technology in support of national defence and was a pioneer in the internet communicaton and online learning/training we use today. I now enjoy working with emerging technologies as one of my hobbies along with family and gardening. I also enjoy gathering family history because of my profound feeling of the contribution my forebears made to the liberties I enjoy including religious freedom. My wife and I are parents of 8 eight children 4/4. We also have 23 granchildren that keep us busy. I have always enjoyed serving others - the people of this great land, and those of other lands including those in Cambodia and Zimbabwe.

Why I am a Mormon

As you will note, I am interested in Family history and genealogy. I enjoy working with other family members across America gathering details and histories. There is a pagent in North Caroline each year celebrating my ancestorial contribution to the independance of the United States. The family moved West to Kentucy and on to Missouri. where they met and joined the Mormon Church. They suffered under the mobs and lost all. They were driven back to Ill. Again driven out my gg grandfather joined the Mormon Battalion on the longest infantry march in US Military history from Ft Levenworth to San Diego, California to establish the Western boundries of what is now the USA. He returned to Iowa and with his family helped settle the West and defend the concept of religious liberity. But with this great heritage, it was still my God given choice to examine and test the principle of Jesus Christ as taught by the Churh of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint for myself. I did it. I now know that this is the restored Church of Jesus Christ as taught anciently with the same organizaton. It was restored by Joseph Smith begining with the knowledge that God the Father and his Son, Jesus Christ know us personally. They love us and want us to have joy in this life. I love the scriptures which are the records of God's dealing with people. I appreciate the addition of the translated histories - The Book of Mormon, a digest of God's dealing with the peoples of the Americas that support Christ's teaching found in the Bible. I know that revelation from God is available on several levels at the Church level throught his prophet - Thoms F Monson, and on a personal level through individaul pray and pondering. It is at the individual level that we can know for ourselves that the truths taught within the Church are of devine origin. I know they are and so testify. Test them from your self by learning and asking God.

How I live my faith

My faith in Jesus Christ and in the Plan of our Father in Heaven that gave us choice in this life to develop our character and personality has had a profound impact on my life. The beliefs have led to actions to help other find this power in themselves. In addition to work in the military to maintain freedom. I also have served in may postions in the Mormon Church managing congregations at various levels to include youth and family activities. I producted a Bicentenial pagaent for the Church in 1976 - "The Land of Liberty" in Washington DC with 700 participates. I also produced large youth dance festivals in Virginia and Germany. I directed family retreats for Mormon servicemen & women - singles and families in the German Alpes. Our family has shared the family council form of parenting with many other religious and civic groups. Some of the most profound joy has been is working one on one with people and watching them change as the realize that they are Children of God and He has a plan for them to grow and be happy in this life. The change in lives of people is beyond description. This work it has been said: Makes bad men good and Good men better" and I have seen it! Try it!
