Hi I'm Melissa

I was born and raised in Washington. I am a mother of four and am a full-time student studying Networking-IT. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up loving the arts, specifically fine art. That same love landed me a degree in fine arts and eventually working as a graphic designer for several years. Now I am back in school attending an online college finishing up my B.S. in Networking (IT). I started out in Web development and quickly found out after taking a programming class that there was no way I could possibly enjoy doing pages of code and not go crazy. :) I enjoy my free time drawing and participating in a Gourmet Cooking Club where my friends and I take turns hosting and trying new recipes, it is a real blast. I also enjoy riding bikes with my children and participating at the YMCA in Zumba classes as well as swimming. I grew up in swim team and love the water. Another thing I enjoy doing is family research (genealogy). I am always fascinated by the stories and who I came from.

Why I am a Mormon

Even though I grew up as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, I gained my own testimony of its truthfulness when I was away from home at college. I wanted to know for myself where I stood and not borrow my parents beliefs. I seldom read the scriptures up until that point when I wanted to know for myself. I decided to pray to my Father in Heaven to ask him of the truthfulness found in the scriptures and was answered by a flooded feeling of love and warmth. I knew at that point onward that my Savior loved and cared about me. I knew that I could not deny the special feeling that afternoon, that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are as real as my family here on earth. Because I know my Savior, it causes a large desire in my heart to follow him and be like him. I have only found peace and happiness from following our Savior, Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

Currently I attend church each Sunday with my family and attend the sacrament meeting and Sunday school. I also participate in visiting teaching, which involves visiting fellow sisters in our area. Since I did graphic designing for years I make all of the flyers and posters for a meeting called Enrichment, which takes place once a month. This is where myself and other women from church come together and each a nice dinner and attend a couple of classes. In the past I worked with the young women and also taught them the gospel during there Sunday school classes. I have also taught the primary children (ages 7 and younger) a few years ago. One thing I love about the church is the opportunity to server in many different areas. Nobody is paid, neither is our Bishop...everything is done out of service for our fellow beings. I love how our church involves the youth on so many levels. They are seen and heard.
