Hi I'm Jason

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love reading, writing, singing, and listening--anything to do with good language and music. I've even composed a hymn, which I hope to have the church use. I enjoy humor and conversation. I love to learn and spend a lot of time in self-directed study. Whenever I get the chance, I spend time gardening and doing home-improvement projects (which my landlord loves). My work is helping people finance and refinance their houses, so I get a lot of opportunities to help and I love my job. For many years I was a technical writer, writing reference materials for technical audiences such as computer users and software programmers. I was born and raised in Western Washington. I love my hometown of Tacoma and moved back here a few years ago, to stay--also to be close to three of my four kids who live with their mom nearby.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because the Holy Ghost has spoken to my spirit saying the church and gospel of Jesus Christ are his. That's how I know Jesus Christ lives and heads his organization, his kingdom here and now. That's how I know Joseph Smith was the prophet Christ used to restore the church until Christ comes again. That's how I know the Bible and the Book of Mormon testify of Christ. That's how I know the church uniquely offers Christ's true ordinances such as baptism and eternal marriage. That's how I know that Christ will return. And that's why I won't settle for anything less than the fullness of Christ. The church helps me prepare to meet God. It also helps me have joy and love in the meantime. As I join with the saints, my heart softens, my personality refines, I'm sanctified, and my hope of eternal life with my family grows constantly.

How I live my faith

I'm my congregation's choir director and webmaster. I love weeknight socials/dinners and invitations on Sunday afternoons to spend time with families. I love taking the Lord's supper every week--and going to Sunday school and men's group. Since no one is paid money for their efforts, the church affords a lot of opportunities to serve. This month we're painting an elderly lady's house as part of the Paint Tacoma Beautiful project. We're also going to help build a Tot Lot for the City of University Place. Someone's always moving residences or has some specific need we can help address. I occasionally attend singles functions such as dances and special talks by experts on topics ranging from personal finance to Holy Land history. I also get a lot of chances lately to help the missionaries teach new friends of the church. Later on this month, I've been asked to speak for 20 minutes or so in the main Sunday service about the Word of Wisdom, the Lord's advice about sticking to good food and drink. Throughout, I live my faith by constant prayer, a lot of study, and a determination to use well the grace of the Savior's atonement.
