Hi I'm Brick Allen

I am a 5th generation Arizona cowboy, a 3rd generation scoutmaster and a mamma's boy through and through and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in the Arizona sun and was riding horses with my mom before I could sit up under my own power. Up until I turned 16 my passion was horses. I week would rarely go by without a portion of it spent riding, training or caring for them. At 16, like many boys, my interests changed. I began to wakeboard and snowboard. My background in gymnastics allowed me to become proficient in both. A wakeboarding/snowboarding cowboy is not very unusual in Arizona. Now I am older with 4 kids and my passion has returned horses. I am a business owner with my father and brother and love working in real estate with them. I am a part time student and am currently remodeling my house. I guess you could say I have a full plate, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have come to understand that Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ know me. They know and care for me individually in such a way that I feel their love in my life. I know that they have one goal for me, to help me find Joy. A level of happiness that is permanent and can only be found by living the teachings of Jesus Christ. Nine years ago, I was attacked in my home by an intruder as I lay in bed next to my wife of only one year. While my wife gratefully escaped unharmed physically, I was stabbed repeatedly and given a 10% chance to survive. The following weeks, my Savior's love filled my life and the life of my wife. Through the substantial pain I was required to fight through I came to understand better the suffering of the Son of God for me and my sins. My love for Him deepened, and His love filled my life in such a way that I cannot doubt that He loves each and every person on an individual level in such a way that it can help us overcome anything in this life. I am now a father of 4, and as I am overwhelmed with the love that I have for each child, I can better understand the love that Heavenly Father has for each of His children. Heavenly Father is a perfect being with a perfect love, which I cannot understand, but can feel confident knowing that God's perfect love motivates Him to do all that He can to help His children, the inhabitants of this world, to return and live with Him. God's perfect love is one that understands the importance of family and what we mean to each other. I feel this is one of the reasons why He created a plan that will allow us to return and live with Him as eternal families if we live the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

As a missionary in Lima, Peru I came to the realization that the most important way that I can live my faith is through the small and simple things. If I can be faithful in reading the scriptures, praying to Heavenly Father, attending church regularly and try to live my life in the service of others as Jesus Christ did, then all the other things will fall into place. This does not mean life will be easy. Even though I was living the gospel as best I could, someone entered my home and tried to take my life. The pain afterwards was so intense I would pass out from pain at times. The anger in my heart could have easily taken control and I could have become bitter. Since I was living the gospel by doing the simple things, these trials took on greater meaning, forgiveness filled my heart and I am now grateful for the strength these experiences have given me. The prophets teach us that by "small and simple things are great things brought to pass." The greatest achievement of all is the salvation of a person which comes from the simple living of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
