Hi I'm Shay

I am a Southern Firecracker transplanted in the Rainy Northwest. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in the deep South eating grits and boiled peanuts. Today, I am married to my best friend and together we have 4 great kids. Three boys and a little princess. I like to read, hike, vacation, shop and try new things. I am a great listener and I love to look at life from a new perspective.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have a deep and abiding love for my Father in Heaven and His Son Jesus Christ. His gospel provides answers and meaning for me in an crazy and tumultuous world. I was nine when my mother died from cancer and I find such comfort in knowing that my children knew her before they came to Earth and that we can all be together again. I am grateful for the Plan of Salvation, our opportunity for repentance and the immense support we receive from the Lord's divine plan. The design of the family and the support we receive from our fellow saints can help support us through the darkest days and celebrate, with us, our greatest joys. And when this is not enough, we have the support and love our of Father in Heaven. Our church is a church of service, and I find comfort in knowing that although I live thousands of miles from my family, I have a church family that I can always call on. I am grateful for spiritual promptings that help us to know the path that we should take. When all we have are Earthly views to make our decisions, it is comforting to know that there is One who sees the entire plan that can guide us. I am a Mormon because the knowledge that I am a Daughter of God and He loves me is what I need to help me find happiness in this life and the life to come.

How I live my faith

My faith is integrated into every day of my life. It starts with me. The choices I make that strengthen my personal relationship with my Heavenly Father through scripture study and prayer impact the way I teach my family and the things I teach them. My husband and I strengthen our marriage and relationship as we allow the Lord to guide our family decisions and draw us closer together as a couple. I have accepted responsibilities within our church family that has allowed me to work with youth and adults alike. I have been river rafting with the young women and talk the innocent 4 year olds how to bow their heads and respect the Lord in prayer. I have delivered countless meals to families in need and cleaned and packed homes for a move. Our church is a church of service and Christlike love and I live my faith by looking for the needs of those around me, those of my faith and those who are not, and striving to lift their burdens.

How are modesty and chastity related? How can parents teach their children to be modest in dress, language and behavior?

I think that our world has become oversexualized. What once was thought of as inappropriate has become common. I choose to dress modestly because I believe that intimacy is a sacred experience. The ability to create life, is sacred. By dressing modestly, I encourage members of the opposite sex to notice me for my mind, my behavior, and my personality, not my body. I am not a Sex Symbol. I am a beautiful, vibrant woman. Show more Show less
