Hi I'm Steve

I'm a native Arizonan who loves the outdoors. I'm a husband, a father and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Arizona and have wonderful memories in my youth of hiking and exploring the amazing outdoors in this state from the Grand Canyon in the north to the southern deserts. Now that I'm married and have children of my own I still enjoy discovering new parts of this state and sharing the love of the outdoors with my family. Recently we hiked the South Kaibab trail in the Grand Canyon together and we marvelled at the amazing beauty of the canyon. I also love sports, especially soccer, and enjoy excercising regularly. When I engage in sports now it's usually to help my children practice or learn, rather than for my own enjoyment. However, I find the satisfaction from helping them to learn and improve their skills exceeds the joy of playing competitively.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon, because I have studied the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and have felt the Holy Spirit tell me what I'm learning is true. In the Book of Mormon the prophet Alma taught that faith is like a seed. Just as we would plant a seed and provide water and nourishment to help it grow, we must do likewise with our faith. While I was raised a Mormon I still had to nourish this seed of faith in my heart by studying the Bible, the Book of Mormon, serving others and praying to ask Heavenly Father if what I was learning was true. Just as a seed grows into a plant or a tree I have felt my faith continue to grow throughout my life. I'm also a Mormon because the teachings of this church help me to understand the basic questions of "What is the Purpose of My Life" and "What Will Happen to Me When I Die". As a father these are questions that I now think much more deeply about. I feel a responsibility to teach my children about the purpose of their life and the Plan their Heavenly Father has prepared for them. We live in a world where it can be very hard to know what is right and what is wrong, but I'm thankful for the teachings of this church that help me to follow my Savior Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by doing my best to be a good husband and father. I have a responsibilty, along with my wife, to make sure that as a family we study the teachings of Jesus and then follow his example. We try to follow the example of Jesus by helping others in need and serving them. I also live my faith by serving in my ward and trying to strengthen the faith of other members. As a home teacher I have the responsibility to regularly visit several other members of the ward to make sure that their physical needs are taken care of and that they are doing well spiritually. My calling or responsibility in my ward right now is to serve as the Bishop. This is a calling that I will have for several years and one for which I receive no money or compensation. I'm grateful for this opportunity to teach and serve the members of my ward in order to help their faith in Jesus Christ grow. The best way that I can teach the members of the ward is by living the gospel and setting an example. While serving in the church and as a hometeacher does mean giving up some of my free time I have found that it strengthens my own faith and allows me to develop deep friendships with others.
