Hi I'm Don.

I am retired after 30 years in the Fire Service. I have 3 children and 5 grandchildren. I enjoy wood working. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My father was a farm hand who through hard work and saving started farming on his own. I grew up on these farms. I went to school and college in Washington state. I served 6 years in the Army Reserve. Just after graduation from college I married my wife and we have been happily married for 42 years. We have three grown children. One daughter and two sons. Both sons are in the Washington National Guard and have served multiple combat deployments with them. We have five grand children, who we are lucky enough to live within 10 minutes of. We like to spend a lot of time with them doing fun things. After my army enlistment I spent 6 years with the Grant County Sheriff's office as a Reserve Officer. I then joined the Fire Service first as a volunteer and then working my way up until I became the paid Fire Chief. After 30 years in the Fire Service I have retired and am enjoying my time by doing some volunteer emergency service work with such organizations as the Red Cross and our Amateur Radio ARES group. My oldest Grand Daughter likes to work in my wood shop and learn how to work wood with me. I am looking forward to teaching the others skills as they get older.

Why I am a Mormon

I believe in Christ as our redeemer, savior and king. I believe that through his atonement all mankind may be saved. For this to be true all mankind must be given the opportunity to accept his gift. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the only church that provides for this opportunity.

How I live my faith

Over the years I have tried to help others in times of need as well as just to improve their lives. I got into emergency services because I saw a need to help others where I would be able to be of help. Over the years I have done other things, such as. I have been a Scout Master of a Boy Scout Troop. As Chief of two different fire agencies I implemented programs utilizing the youth in training and service to their communities. My wife's and my present job in the church is to help both members and nonmembers with food storage, preservation, menu planning, cost saving of food items, etc. We are enjoying this service opportunity very much. I do believe that by serving others we are serving God and I try to live my life that way.
