Hi I'm Nathan

I was born and raised in Western Massachusetts. I was a missionary in Brazil. I live in the Bay Area. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a husband and new father. I enjoy athletics, camping, hiking, and the outdoors. I have section hiked over 300 miles of the Appalachian Trail. I am a wicked big Red Sox/Celtics fan. I have a degree in construction management. I recently moved with my wife to begin my career working with a large commercial construction company in the Bay Area.

Why I am a Mormon

Both of my parents grew up in the same small town in Western Massachusetts. My mother was raised as a member of the church, my father was raised in another denomination. During their high school years they began dating and eventually with the influence of my mother and her family, my father decided to accept the Gospel into his life. This one decision changed his life forever as well as my own. They later were married. My two sisters and I were raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, in that same small town in Western Massachusetts, but we each have come to gain our own confirmation that this is truly the Church of Jesus Christ. I have had numerous experiences throughout my life that have helped me to come to this knowledge for myself. I know that it is not by happenstance that we are all here on Earth. I know that there is a plan and reason for why we are all here. I know that through the Bible and the Book of Mormon we can come to understand this plan and learn how to find true joy and happiness in this life and the next. There is a living prophet and there are apostles today, set up in the same organization as during Christ's time, and with the same authority. They receive revelation from God to help guide and direct us to understand and live the teachings of Jesus Christ. The Lord restored His complete church to the Earth through His prophet Joseph Smith. I know that Jesus Christ is my savior and that He overcame death so that we all might live. It may seem complicated and strange to many, but it is really very simple. It is available to all. In the view of the world we are a strange people. There are many myths and misunderstandings about who we are and what we believe, but for anyone who takes the time to really think about the questions of life and wants answers, this is the place. The teachings of Christ apply to our modern times and will give you an understanding and perspective that will change you forever.

How I live my faith

As a member of my "ward" or local church here in California I attend church once a week every Sunday. My wife and I moved here about a year ago not knowing anyone. Because of our church affiliation we have made many new friends and felt at home here very quickly. We had no idea where to live since neither of us had ever even visited the Bay Area but all we had to do was call the local Bishop and we were given all sorts of help from the church members in that area to find us a good and safe place to live. I am involved with organizing the men in the church to go out and do something we called "home teaching." Home teaching is a program where two men are assigned families in the church to look after and visit regularly. They share gospel centered lessons with the families. They help the families with rides or home projects or anything of that nature. It is a great program that helps us all. There is a similar program organized by the women called "visiting teaching." My wife is involved with "visiting teaching," and teaching Sunday School to the youth in the ward. We both enjoy actively participating in church and continue to learn more each week.
