Hi I'm Lorin

I'm a devoted father, loving husband, volunteer Scout Master who loves the outdoors. I love family time together and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have been happily married for almost 22 years. My wife and I have 3 wonderful children. We have worked hard to raise them to have high standards and to avoid the bad that the world dishes out. My wife and I owned a successful home inspection business that we sold several years ago to try our hand at real estate investing. That endeavor did not go so well and we just about lost everything. But we are in the process of bouncing back and have enjoyed the results of our struggle together as a family to get our feet back under us. Through the struggle, we have been able to see what is most important in this life. We have found that it is not what you can buy with money but the people you have around you that count most. As a family we love to boat and wake board together. I have been a snow skier in my younger days but a few years ago my kids introduced me to snowboarding and we have had a wonderful time doing that together. We have enjoyed riding dirt bikes together as a family and we love to be outdoors camping, hiking, fishing and bike riding.

Why I am a Mormon

Like many other members of the LDS church, I was born into a family with a long heritage of membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. That does not mean that I just assumed that the things that my parents believe about God and Jesus Christ were true. At some point in everybody’s life they need to questions and find out for themselves. That time came for me when I turned 19 and was deciding if I was going to serve a full time mission for my church. While preparing for that I did some soul searching and read the Book of Mormon and took the challenge from Moroni (a prophet that wrote in the Book of Mormon) He said to read the Book of Mormon, ponder it and pray to ask if it was true. I did that for myself and I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God. I know this by the feelings of The Holy Ghost that has given me the feelings of peace in my heart. It is scripture like the Bible. I know that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He loved me enough to give his life to pay the price for my sins so that I can repent and return to live with Him someday.

How I live my faith

The LDS church is a strong supporter of the Boy Scouts of America. As a member of the LDS church we are given callings or opportunities to serve. My calling in the church is to be the Scout Master of a troop of 12 and 13 year old boys in the Boy Scouts. This has been a wonderful blessing in my life. Part of that joy is because I have a son who is a part of that troop and it gives me the opportunity to do so many fun activities with him and the rest of the boys. There is definitely a time commitment to take on a calling like this but there are great rewards. I love to work with and teach the youth. They are so strong and have such an ability to stand up for what is right and true. I sometimes think that I learn more from them that they ever learn from me. As a member of the church I think people know that we have pretty high standards, a moral code so to speak. I feel happy that I don’t have to be a slave to the bad things of the world like drugs, alcohol, tobacco and pornography. There is a freedom and peace that comes by knowing that I can look into the eyes of my wife and feel confident I have nothing to hide from her!
