Hi I'm Reed Carr

I am a husband, a father, a businessman, and a volunteer with an international charity. I am Christian and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

As a husband and father, my greatest happiness comes from seeing my family succeed. I have gone from coaching my children's youth teams to watching them represent their schools on varsity and junior high teams. But whta brings me greater joy as a father is when one of them walks in, reads a verse from the scriptures, and asks me a question about the verse. My wife and I volunteer with a non-profit organization working in Africa and I am continually amazed by witnessing true happiness from people who have so little. Working in Africa reminds me that God loves all His children and that happiness is not dependent on worldly conditions. Education is important to me -- I earned two masters degrees and my wife also earned a masters degree. I believe that knowledge opens doors and opened doors lead to opportunities. I hope I never quit learning. I worked for a fortune 100 company, started my own business, and currently work for a small business. I have enjoyed success and experienced failure, but I have learned from each experience. But above all, I am a husband who loves his wife and a father who loves his children.

Why I am a Mormon

Several years ago my wife and I lost two girls at child birth. We were left wondering why and questioning much of what we believed and were taught as children. The personal struggles and self questioning continued for months, but our faith in Jesus Christ helped us remain firm to our direction in life. My faith in Jesus Christ and membership in this Church has helped me develop and strengthen my reliance on the Savior and to persevere through hardships and trials. This church emphasizes that my personal relationship with God will lead me to try and live more like Him -- I am far from perfect, but each day I try to strengthen that relationship and to treat others as Christ would have me do. My desire to live a life after Christ's example comes because He has blessed and loves me.

How I live my faith

I love serving in my community. I've coached teams that were undefeated and others that were winless. Regardless of the record, I try to teach the youth that displaying Christian principles is their greatest victory. I serve in local politics to try to improve my city and schools. I hope that my community will always remain focused on strengthening families and allowing individuals to live true to their faith in God. I love working with the boy scouts and providing service throughout the community. One of the greatest values I can teach is for young men to stand true to their principles and to stand proudly -- through belief and action -- for their God. My wife and I devote hours to a non-profit at our own personal expense with the hope that in some meaningful way we will see the lives of others to improve. We believe that through serving and lifting others we are acting as God would have us do. One of the great benefits of this work has been to watch our own children decide to volunteer and serve others. But more than anything, I choose to serve because that is what I believe Jesus would ask me to do if He were here personally.
