Hi I'm Barbara

Hi... I am a Mormon or a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

About Me

I am a mother of five children and a grandmother of twelve. I enjoy working on genealogy and going to the temple. My grandmother was the first person in our family to join the church and because of her there are now more than a hundred members of the church. My grandfather helped to build the first temple in the west the Saint George, Utah temple. Because of the choices my grandmother made I was taught the gospel in my youth. I was baptized at the age of eight years old by my older brother and I was confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints by my Bishop. I will never forget the way I felt that day. I have a strong testimony of the gospel. I love to read the Book of Mormon and then ponder the messages I read. I know it is a true history of the people on this continent. I also know it is the word of God to his people. I believe in the power of prayer and I know that if you ask with a sincere heart with real intent our heavenly father will answer your prayers. One night when my daughter was about five years old she lost her puppy. We looked all around the neighborhood but could not find it. I told her let's kneel and pray and so we did. Just as the prayer ended their was a knock on the door and when we opened the door their stood a lady with the puppy in her hands. My daughter will never forget this experience and neither will I. There have been many other incidents just like this one that have strengthened my testimony of the power of prayer.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the church and was taught the gospel in my youth. I lived in a small Mormon community in Arizona. However, it was not until I got married and moved to the city that I gain a testimony for myself. I learned to rely on my own testimony. I read the Book of Mormon and prayed about it. I have come to love the scriptures. I love the Bible as well and I am thankful for the two books that complement each other so perfectly. I have learned how important the law of tithing is and how much the Lord will bless you when you pay your tithing. Over and over again I have been blessed for paying tithing. I totally believe that it takes faith not money to pay tithing. If you will have the faith to pay it the Lord will bless you with more than you ever thought possible. I know that my mission here on earth is not finished. I have to go on and endure to the end. Live each day as if it was my last and someday when my mission is over I will be greeted on the other side by family. I believe that families can be together forever and this is very comforting to me. I had a son who died tragically when he was only 22. I know the priesthood blessing given me by a bishop in another state was what helped me through that terrible week of bringing my son's body home for burial. I was blessed in so many ways during that difficult time. I know I will see my son again and he will be part of my eternal family. I was so grateful for the presence of the Holy Ghost and his constant companionship. I was prompted to do things that would later prove so beneficial and comforting to me. Just about a year later my husband of 18 years was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer. I only had 90 days to help him prepare and come to terms with his death. I know again that the Lord was with me and helped me to be strong. I know without my knowledge that Families are Forever I could not have endured the pain of losing two members of my family within such a short period of time.

How I live my faith

I strive to live my faith each and every day. I pray each day that I can be of service to all I meet during that day. That I can be God's hands. I treat each person as if he/she were my brother or sister which I believe they truly are. I have had many calling in the church from primary teacher to activities committee to relief society teacher. I strive to do all that is asked of me. I love teaching music to the young children in primary. Each week I attend my sacrament meetings and I especially love to bear my testimony on the first Sunday of the month. I love to attend the temple and do the work for my ancestors who did not have the opportunity to hear the gospel in this life. I spend a lot of my spare time working on genealogy work. Finding names and preparing them to take to the temple. My husband and I recently were sealed for seven different couples on one day. I couldn't help but picture seven wedding taking place on the other side and the joy it brought to those people who had waited so long for their work to be done. Being a Mormon is a way of life it is not just a Sunday religion. It is something you do each and every minute of every day. It is being honest, obeying the commandments, treating others as you would like to be treated, providing service for your neighbors, helping the sick and the elderly, praying, holding family home evening, feeding the missionaries, keeping the word of wisdom even when you think no one will know. Keeping the sabbath day holy and so many other things. But it brings the greatest joy you will ever know. So if you are considering being baptized..don't hesitate. Do it Now. God will bless you for it.

Can husband and wife be together forever? Do you believe that families will live together in heaven?

Through the blessing and sealing power of the temple marriage a husband and wife can be together forever. They can also have their children either sealed to them or those born after the temple marriage will be born under the temple covenant. Having lost a dear son to death at a young age this is very comforting to me. He is sealed to me and will be my son forever. I look forward to greeting him in another place in a happy reunion. I have also lost a husband and I am comforted by the fact that we can be together forever through the sealing powers. In the scriptures we read " What is sealed on earth is sealed in heaven". I have a testimony for the family plan. Show more Show less

What is the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon is a history of the Jewish prophet who was commanded by God to leave his homeland and journey to the American continent. He was a faithful prophet who did as he was commanded. He brought with him the brass plates so his people could have the record of there ancestors. His ancestors kept record of all their history and this history became the Book of Mormon. It is an exciting story and shows that when the people kept the commandments they were blessed and when they fell away; things didn't go so well. God loved these people and provided prophets to guide them and direct them. One of my favorite stories is of the 2000 strapling warriors who went out to defend their families with pure faith. They fought hard and not one was lost in battle. When they were asked why they didn't fear they said it was because their mother's taught them. The Book of Mormon concludes with a great promise that those who read it and sincerely pray about it can know by the Holy Ghost that it is true (Moroni 10:4). Show more Show less

How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

I believe that we come to know our father in heaven though prayer and though reading the Bible and the Book of Mormon. We read that the testimonies of prophet in the Bible and the Book of Mormon and we listen to what our prophet today has to tell us. We live each day striving to be like him and pray to have his spirit with us throughout the day. Especially when I feel alone and sad or hurt or unhappy I turn to him in prayer and he is always there. In a million ways each day I am reminded of his love and concern just for me. Little things that happen keep me safe each day. I try to never leave the house without asking for his love and guidance for me during the day. When prayers are answered instantly sometimes I have been almost shocked at how fast I receive an answer. Other times when the answer seems to take time I will learn later the reason for that happening and what I had views as a tragedy becomes a blessing. I trust God will lead and guide me..If I will just listen. Show more Show less
