Hi I'm Matt

I'm an active duty Army officer, 3-time combat vet, father of five and graduate student. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a husband and father first. I've been married to the greatest woman in the world for over a decade and have five wonderful children who give life real flavor. I love my career in the Army, including deployments to both Iraq and Afghanistan. I served as a missionary for the Church in Russia and still speak Russian. I am currently a grad student studying Russian and East European Studies. I have been into CrossFit for almost 4 years, and enjoy it still.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Church, but by no means is that the reason I'm a Mormon. I do not have a moment when I became converted to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, either. Rather, it came over a period of years of trial and error, learning His teachings and applying the healing power of the Atonement in my life. I have come to love the Savior and to know that He loves each of us, regardless of our situation in life. I have seen throughout the years how decisions which the world teaches will bring "happiness" and "freedom" only bring bitterness, hollow apathy and confinement by addiction or consequence. On the other hand, I have seen how the following the teachings of Jesus Christ, as found in the Holy Bible and the Book of Mormon, bring true happiness, joy and freedom. I know that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and the Savior of the world.

How I live my faith

I try to live each day in line with the teachings of Christ. I know I am not perfect, but I strive to live so that my life is a reflection of how the Savior would want me to live. I hope that those who know me will want to come to know Jesus Christ. I am active in the Church and work with the young children, where I hope to help the kids gain a knowledge of Jesus Christ's love for them, of His Gospel and that true happiness can only come through obedience to His commandments.

Are Mormons Christians?

Yes. Our Church is named the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and our first article of faith states that "We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost." Our church, our faith, and our lives are centered on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He is the Son of God, the very Savior of mankind. He is the God of Israel, and the God of the whole earth. Only through Christ can we return again to our Father in Heaven. Show more Show less
