Hi I'm Bill

I'm a husband, father, football fan, outdoorsman and I'm also a Mormon.

About Me

I’m probably a fairly typical member of the LDS church. I was raised in small rural Utah towns came from a large family (13 children). Served a mission when 19 came home and joined the National Guard as a way not only to serve the country but also help pay for college. I married at 23 and we had our first child 22 months later. During this time I went to a state college and worked the night shift at a local manufacturing plant to both support my family and cover additional educational expenses. It took me longer than most to get through college that way but after I finally earned my degree, I took an IT job in the Northeast working for one of the fortune 100 companies. Over the years we added four more children, a master’s degree a job change and a move to the great state of Texas. I spend free time following the Cowboys, Longhorns, Cougars and watching / coaching my own kids in their sporting endeavors. My hobbies also include kayaking, motorcycling, reading and keeping up on the national economic and political environment.

Why I am a Mormon

I became a member of the LDS Church because my parents were members and I was raised in the Faith. I’m still a member because after intense study of both the doctrines and history of the church I have full confidence that it is of divine origin and more closely follows the biblical structure and teachings of the church Jesus established in the meridian of time than any other that I have become familiar with. I have also spent time in contemplation and prayer regarding its veracity and gained a sweet reassuring feeling of confidence that it has both the Truth and the Power of God unto salvation. That priesthood authority was restored to the earth by the ancient apostles and that the heavens are indeed open that God loves his children today as much as he did anciently and still communicates with them not only through modern day prophets but through the ministration of the Holy Ghost in accordance with the Biblical pattern. I further believe that the Book of Mormon as a second witness of Jesus establishes both the truth of the Bible and the reality of Christ’s divinity that He is the Son of God the only begotten of the father and that only in and through Him may mankind be saved and receive the blessings of exaltation and eternal life.

How I live my faith

I try to live my Faith by following the Savior’s perfect example of obedience to the commandments and serving others. Although I fall far short of the example that He set and I have much that I need to do to improve I’m constantly striving to be diligent in my worship through prayer and scripture study both individually and as a family and attending and serving in the church. These actions help keep me focused on what is truly important in life and give me desires to constantly follow the Savior by being obedient to His commandments including his admonition to love and serve our fellow-man, to entertain wholesome thoughts and to be perfectly honest in my dealings with others. I also realize that I have five children watching my actions to see if they line up with what I try to teach them so it is added incentive to not only talk the talk but to walk the walk. I realize I still have a ways to go but through Jesus’ grace and enabling power I have confidence that I can get there.
