Hi I'm Matt

I'm an Engineer, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a stereotypical nerd. I have a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering that I received from BYU. I am married with three boys, two nine-year old twins and a four-year old. I like to play the piano, read, play games, or watch a good TV show or movie.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I have received a witness from the Holy Ghost that this church is led directly by the Savior, Jesus Christ. I have felt the peace, comfort, and assurance that Jesus leads this church through a modern-day prophet, just like Moses. I'm a Mormon because I sincerely believe that God has created a way for families to be together forever--that husband and wife can be sealed to each other in heaven, not just "until death do you part." I'm a Mormon because I have read the Book of Mormon and have felt a witness from God that it is true. It confirms my faith in Jesus Christ, giving me a more complete understanding of the good news of the gospel than I would have without it.

How I live my faith

I spend quite of bit of time living my faith. Aside from daily scripture study and prayer, I try to follow the example of Jesus Christ and live a virtuous life. I strongly believe in being honest, and in finding ways to help others. As a leader in my congregation, I spend a lot of time taking care of the younger adult men in my congregation, along with their families. I help teach the gospel and help bring others to follow our Savior's perfect example. I haven't done this forever, though, but I have had various responsibilities in the congregations I have lived in. These range from playing the piano for the young children, to teaching a Sunday School lesson, to directing the choir.

What is the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon is a book of scripture, just like the Bible. It was written by prophets who lived in the American continent. After His resurrection, Jesus Christ visited them as well. They were some of the "other sheep" that he referred to in the Bible that he would go to, bringing the gospel of Jesus Christ to every land. The Book of Mormon is a powerful way to gain a testimony of Jesus Christ as our Savior. The teachings within it are consistent with Jesus' teachings while He lived on the earth, as well as with the other prophets whose writings are compiled in both the Old and New Testaments. Why is family so important to Mormons?

We believe that the basic unit of the church is actually, the family, not the congregation. We believe that we can live together as families in heaven, and so all of our church work is meant to help strengthen family relationships. Show more Show less
