Hi I'm Kathy

I'm a Mormon. I didn't grow up as a Mormon, but I was surrounded by families in my neighborhood who were. I joined at age 33.

About Me

I'm a school teacher and the mother of three boys and step mother of three daughters. I love to read and I have always loved the Lord since my parents took me to church every Sunday. Mostly my younger brother and I sat with our grandmother because our parents sang in the choir. When I was about two my mom took me outside at night and I looked at the sky and said, "Oh God, God is up there." I loved to hear Bible stories and sing songs about Jesus. I like to make friends with people who might feel left out or alone and I like to be a good neighbor. I love working with little children.

Why I am a Mormon

One of the students in my first grade class was really special so I asked her mom what made her so special. At the time we had one child, a son, who was two and I really wanted to know what made a good family and happy children. Her mom eventually invited to me to visit their family at home, invited me to a talk my student was giving in Primary, and also to a lesson the mom was teaching at church in Gospel Doctrine class. She also gave me a Book of Mormon and kept encouraging me to read it until I did. The Primary lesson really touched me. The Gospel Doctrine class had me in tears because the Holy Ghost testified to me that the topic of that lesson, Baptism in the Lord's church, was true. But it was when I read the Book of Mormon clear through in a 24 hour period that I knew that this was a church worth sacrificing for. I did sacrifice, because my parents were very against it and gave me literature to read. I prayed and was given the knowledge that I should not read that, but should instead read the Book or Mormon. Friends and strangers were giving me a hard time about investigating the church and my husband wasn't yet interested. One night I was given an amazing dream that let me know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was where the Lord wanted me. Six months after I was baptized, my husband was baptized. A year after that we were sealed in the temple to each other and our two young children. Our oldest son served a two year mission, returned, and was married in the temple in a beautiful sealing. Nothing compares to witnessing your child follow the path that the Lord has set and to see the joy that it brings to them. Our youngest son has his papers completed and is preparing for a mission. I love My Savior, Jesus Christ and I know He loves me, because he brought people into my life that weren't afraid to share the gospel with me. The Book of Mormon is true, the Church is Christ's church restored, and Joseph Smith is a Prophet.

How I live my faith

I have served many callings in church over the twenty three years and each has helped me grow a little bit more as a person. I loved working with the Young Women and being able to do things that I missed out on by joining as an adult. I got witness their testimonies grow and see them progress into beautiful strong Young Women and leaders. I also love teaching Primary children. To me it is a privilege to be charged with teaching the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ to the children and young people of the church. Another thing that I love to do is share the church with my friends and neighbors and see them be baptized. Their lives change just like mine did. The joy I have seen come into their lives is more precious than gold. The Church is like a family. We all love and support each other in good times and bad. I wouldn't give up the relationships we build as we do that for anything!
