Hi I'm mike D.

Southern CA native. Board sport enthusiast. Triathlon wannabe. I love Old People. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Waves. Snow. Street. Sand. Mountains. Trails. Snow. Boards. Wheels. Boots. Water. Growing up on the West Coast led me outdoors. An active lifestyle of sports and adventure. College Football games are a favorite. I married a Nurse, and went to Grad School. Now, I’m a father of five, trying to find balance between the demands of being out providing for my family with the time they need me home around. Sneaking in some Mountain Biking before kid’s soccer games. P90x in the mornings before carpools and school. The Good Life requires a very delicate balance…I’m trying hard to find.

Why I am a Mormon

I’ve searched for doctrine that teaches me to be self reliant, while being unselfish. Reminders to serve, without self-serving. Study abroad during college years opened my eyes to diverse cultures and beliefs. I found kind people in many lands and good people in many religions. Beyond the philosophy and hype, I’ve searched for a FEELING of truth. This Church invites each of us to give service. I’ve been taught to pray and open my heart to God. I have learned to sing in a choir, read the Bible, and even teach others. Sometimes we have specific assignments to work with children or youth. I live my religion imperfectly, surrounded by lots of good but imperfect people trying to do the same. My life has meaning.

How I live my faith

I work in healthcare, taking care of seniors. I enjoy listening to their stories and memories and lessons about life. Often, they give advice. And the advice usually includes something about Love, Family, Faith, Service. So I’ve looked for a way to follow that advice and find love, family, faith and service. This Church teaches me about Love—the perfect love of Jesus Christ. About Family—and how families are part of God’s plan for us. About Faith—and the strength that comes from believing in Heavenly Father. About Service—and the joy that one feels when helping another. I have found meaning in life by following their advice. Their advice has led me here, to this church. And here, I feel I belong.
