Hi I'm Patrick

I'm a Mormon. I was baptized while in College many years ago. Originally, I'm from Vermont, but now live in Ohio.

About Me

I live with my Wife in NW Ohio. We have 3 children and 5 grandchildren. We live in a nice home in the country with woods and a pond. I have worked in the Hotel industry for 27 years. I'm in my early 50's and still enjoy my time outside. I love to garden and work on the yard. We still do tent camping, hiking and fishing. I'm also a big sports nut. My favorite teams are the Texas Rangers, Michigan Wolverines, Detroit Red Wings, and Cleveland Cavs.

Why I am a Mormon

In my senior year in H.S. we moved from Vermont to Dallas, Texas. I then enrolled at a college in Cedar City, UT. At that time I knew very little about Mormons. Actually, I thought it was just one of those start-up religions in the 1800's. I knew Mormons had settled in Utah but I had no idea how many Mormons there really was/is. For my first 3 years of college I was very cold about the religion. I wanted nothing to do with it. I had many invitations to check it out but I would have nothing to do with it. Friends who were Mormons continued to be friends and they were all great examples. Eventually, I decided to take the lessons. I took the lessons with the missionaries for nearly 1 year. I'm a logical person so I needed to research the religion much more than what I should have. There were a lot of things about the Church that made sense to me: Lay ministry, Temples, Priesthood, Service, Bible references, focus on the youth and family, etc. The book of Mormon also made sense to me but I couldn't decide on baptism until I knew it was true. That promise is given to all of us that through the Holy Ghost we can all now this truth. I would pray and pray with no answer. Finally I decided to pray one last time and if no feeling came I would go back to the Catholic Church. Well I got no feeling once again...but I also got a strong feeling to not give up trying. I then asked in a different way. Read Alma 32 and see what helped me. Anyhow, I got a very strong, burning feeling that the Church of Jesus Christ is true. All the logic in the world does not make something true or not. It was the Holy Ghost that confirmed all that I thought that I knew. I can say without hesitation and testify now that Jesus Christ is my Savior. He died and now lives for me and each of us. I know that he organized a church that was once taken away from the earth. I know that Joseph Smith helped to restored Christ's Church.

How I live my faith

I've had many callings in the Church. Presently, I am a member of the Stake High Council. My favorite calling was Young Mens President but honestly, all callings are great. It's like anything in life--it depends on what you put into it. We live about 30 minutes from our church building. Sometimes it's hard to get to every activity but we still do it because we enjoy it so much. The ward members help us in so many ways. People are always willing to help and pray for us. Living the standards of the Church help to add balance in my life. I am active at work and in the community. I have enjoyed my membership in the church.
